I like the signing. Don't know why. But I'd like to see linear progression for next 3 years.
Public poll, get down on it !

I don't think Cheeks could get fired after only 1 year if he went 0-82 and sat in the stands the last 30 games.

Sorry to be a total drag but I envision a Tom Gores press conference in February 2014 where he announces an interim coach and interim GM.
The reasons for this will be:
    1. a BUST 1st round draft pick who can't stay on the floor.
    2. a slow start with frustrated players (Monroe).
    3. Crappy attendance.

    (reverse jinx in effect)

I was going to select "date palm" but thee left it off. Come on big guy, you usually think through the poll options better than this.

He won't get fired before 1 season is up. This off season determines his tenure. If we splash on rubbish FA's, he will be gone in two. If we do the right thing, grab some decent pieces and start sneaking up the pecking order towards the playoffs, along with some decent PG development for Knight, he could very well stay.

Mark my words, this off season determines it.

If he lasts 3 or more seasons, that's 8 or more years below .500 basketball.

Cheeks had a winning record (162-139) in Portland.

There's too many issues with our roster right now, and the team doesn't seem ready to shed waste.

That's true, but let's see what the roster looks like 2 months from now.

I rather enjoy shedding waste, though I don't use a "shed", per se.

I can't decide if this is a first step or just more of a throw away....

It is really hard to imagine Joe D here for much longer.... so even if Cheeks does a respectable job, it will be all for nothing, because a new GM is not going to keep Cheeks on board.
