It is indeed a sketchy description of re-signing 2nd rounders... ESPN cleared it up when the new CBA came out (too lazy to find link)... But this is my understanding (I think Roscoe supports this also). We must have the MLE available to re-sign our 2nd round pick for any amount up to the Max.
Wow. Not trying to be disrespectful but thats some funny stuff right there. LB could have won if he played Darko against All Pro Duncan??? Darko would have fouled out in the first 6 minutes of the first quarter back then. And I'm not a Darko hater. In fact, I think he is going to have quite the career still. I still wish we had held on to him. And Carlisle getting fired for not playing Prince soon enough. Please name your source on this one. That is news to me. Carlisle wasn't Mr. Personality around the office and got on the wrong side of the wrong people. That's why Carlisle was joking about improving his people skills at the beginning of his next stop. It's well documented why he was fired. Plus Dumars isn't the type of guy to hold it against someone who made a mistake. Especially playing an unproven rookie in a very important game. That's why we are schooling the Bulls right now. The playoffs is a whole different animal. Rookies normally get eaten alive in the playoffs. There is usually a growth process that first has to take place. This process usually takes place after losing in the playoffs. Flip is wise in not giving such an important piece of the pie to Blaylock, Darko, etc. The playoffs are for men only. Boys need to be relegated to the pine to watch and observe. Unless it is a blow out of course.
When I wrote that I learned something new, I did today! Because Amir is a 2 year vet, he qualifies for the Early Bird. We can use the Early Bird on him, and the MLE on Acker, or an unrestricted FA if we want.
I'm amazed you can stay on top of all of these rules. It all sounds like greek to me. Roscoe is one smart cookie.
If Tim Duncan rolls an ankle, will SA bemoan the fact that they never developed their #53 pick into a bona fide, A Class, superstar? Blalock got more meaningful minutes in his first year than Darko and showed less. PHX has a great player in barbosa but take nash out and the suns get swept. Hunter and Murray have been inconsistent so its hard to have confidence in them to help win 1 game. They might help to win 2 of 5 games but we don't have that kind of schedule anymore.
The only problem with that theory on Carlisle is that it doesn't jive. He's the guy who developed Memo. There is supposedly a rumour/story that floats around that Carlisle is not the most personable fella and he rubbed some people the wrong way around the Palace front office. That theory holds a little more weight with me, because Carlisle was going to get his contract renewed right up until Detroit was able to secure (privately) the services of Larry Brown. It's also been a critique of Carlisle in Indy. Not that he doesn't play the young guys, but that he just isn't a very friendly personality.
Unfortunately a familiar trend is starting to emerge. When the team wins, they get lax. The last line of defense against complacency is the coach. And once again, an opposition coach has made an adjustment, and we fail to adjust back during the game. Flip better have a couple sleepless nights sorting this out before Game 6 because if Skiles throws another look at him, we're going to play a Game 7. I'm very disappointed in the energy, execution, game plan, adjustments and substitutions.
Roscoe, while for the most part I agree with what you said, I still don't think that Flip can make them play harder or concentrate. What power does he have to force them to do things they are not willing to do? He can't sit them, because the bench won't keep us in the game. What can he possibly do?
I heard the team doesn't like to practice. They probably also had not planned a trip to Chicago immediately after the game. Sounds like they need a walk through and Bill Pope needs to get the video together for the flight. No sitting around on Roundball 1 playing cards this time. No hitting the clubs tomorrow night in Chicago. Let's get serious, and that starts with the man who schedules meetings, filmwork, and practices.
He's not dead yet, just very slow to react. Like a lot of people here, he may have been waiting for the team to turn it on and win. Problem might be that it's not that we are so good, Chicago just started out real bad and now they're ready to steal this thing from us. I figure that game 6 is the one we need. Figure on the Pistons winning game 6 in a hard fought battle which we take control of in the 4th quarter............
This is what I was looking for. Kinda. PISTONS: Two Thumbs Down I was hoping Flip would take some personal responsibility for not adjusting to the P&R (a staple offense from high school upwards) during the game. But he prefers to point it out to the players and let them motivate themselves. We'll see if it works.
Wallace talk is catching on: Also, how long are the refs going to keep calling Hinrich's flops an offensive foul? That is extremely annoying, because he just keeps falling down and they keep calling it. I thought they (the refs) were supposed to review game tapes.
Per Chris McCosky: Pistons fill Game 6 with drama "Will everybody get off Flip Saunders' back now? The man coached his butt off in this series". "Game 6 was a clinic in how to defuse the pick-and-roll. He switched the guard matchups, going back to the plan in games 1 and 2, when Richard Hamilton was on Hinrich and Chauncey Billups had Gordon. And Saunders used a constantly changing mélange of defensive looks to stagger and confuse Hinrich, which broke the Bulls' offensive rhythm".
Flip needs to win it all to appease some of his doubters. He's had my vote all along. Still one of the top three coaches in the league. When he wins the title, we can put all the LB talk to rest...................
Q: Re: How does Flip Saunders rank as an NBA Coach? A: About 18 slots lower with every loss, and 3 slots higher with each win.
