Helps him see the floor better.
And I guess this is the conundrum which they have worked themselves into. John Lucas doesn't look too bad on his scale contract. Demar's contract is going to kill them next year.
No they have no 1st rounder to give, and the team as it is built is only going to contend for mediocrity. Bargnani goes, but I doubt that he will end up in Detroit. They can get a far better player for Ross + Bargs than Stuckey.
Yeah their money situation is the reason I brought this whole thread up in the first place. Wondering what you could steal from them.
I would be stunned if Bargs to Detroit happened as well.
Still it got people talking, and yelling lol.
Well that does make more sense. I'm going to bed.
Fish eye, sees all.
Rod Stuckey might have averaged 8 assists per game if he had the fish eye.
...he wouldn't have to worry about dribbling with his head down.
I have to wonder if Bargnani has ever played under a coach who has fully utilized his fish eye.
With his strong roots in the Pacific Northwest I think Nate McMillan might be just the coach. It's always a positive when the system and player mesh.
Why does Don Reid's name hardly ever get mentioned as a candidate?
Some good thinking going on here. He would make a nice collection for the flexibility needed going forward. He can be a five or a four...but, really a four. Offensively, he is worth 10 M and can smooth over a future center and PF. He has rising assets.
What loop is he in?
Here is a brave path, not for the faint of heart:
Sign Ron Artest (he has a player option next year at $7.7MM, so maybe unrealistic unless we beat that. Also he's 34.)
PG: Knight/ Stuckey
SG: Olidipo/ Singler/ English
SF: Artest/ Jerebko/ Middleton
PF: Monroe/ Adetokoubo/ Villanueva
C: Drummond/ Kravtsov
Assistant Coach: Mahorn
Assistant Coach: Some other jerk
Trade the 2 2nd round picks to move up and get the Greek.
Lose Bynum, Maxiell, Maggette, and Calderon
Total payroll with that lineup next year, even with paying Artest $8.0M, would be $47.5M. We would have the lowest payroll in the league with Stuckey, Villanueva, Kravtsov, and English dropping off after the season ($19.4M).
The strategy would be to go all in defensively to create an identity and avoid blowing our wad with this year's weak FA class. Save our dry powder for the next year's class, when guys like Wade, Lebron, Bosh, Irving, Rubio, Vasquez, Klay Thompson, Deng, Melo, Faried, and many other hit the market.

Even if we don't bid on those top guys, it will take demand away from the next tier town because other teams will be stretching for the A-listers.
I can't tell if you're being serious or not TaS!!
You make some sound logic regarding waiting a year before wasting our cash, but Artest in a Pistons jersey? We won't get Bosh, Wade, LeBron, Melo, etc, but I like bidding on guys like Rubio.
Artest is nutty, but I was just trying to find a way to get instant defensive identity through and through. The key is not having any weak links and having a certain amount of crazy on the floor. I'm anticipating the Lakers imploding and hopefully the Heat too in another year. This was the best way that I could think of to take advantage of those situations.
We aren't going to win it all next year, so no real point in getting FA's IMO. It will just be one year less that we'll have them for when we really need them. I see FA's like the 2004 Sheed. They should be the pieces that you add when you have everything else built and you have an identity.
Maybe replace Artest with another defense-first veteran SF rental and the plan gets more realistic.
I like the coaching idea...
What about Granger instead of Artest?
Ok cool. Yeah the Artest inclusion threw me off.
Just don't see any way Joe signs him, especially with the history and all. Another similar option sure.
Just checked that list. Many of those guys have team options so will likely be picked up. Eg. Rubio, Irving, Klay...
If its just for one year, maybe Matt Barnes. He'd also be a nice bench player to keep after that. If Mayo signs for big bucks outside Dallas we could try to dupe Dallas and trade Stuckey for Marion who would have an expiring contract of 9 mil and be that 1 year gap filler.
I'd also rather draft someone other than Oladipo then perhaps take a shot at someone like Avery Bradley in '14 as a cheaper Tony Allen lite. Deng is really expensive, and as long as Paul George doesn't take a backwards step next season I'd almost be inclined to give him max money (or close to it). He would be our SF and best player for many years. He also plays D. If Indy matches then at least we've made them earn it.
Paul George is the real deal.
If there is a strategy out there that would somehow convince Paul George to become a Piston, - do it!
Grainger is a FA in '14 I believe.
The thing that got me thinking about Artest was reading quotes by him saying that he thought Howard had too much pressure placed on him and that Artest (himself) and Kobe should have done a better job in a leadership role. It was a mature type of mindset that was unexpected coming from him.
Metta World Peace wants to stay and win with the Lakers - latimes.com
(he's looking for a few years at lower pay and may choose that over his next year's guaranty)
Metta World Peace believes Los Angeles Lakers put too much responsibility on Dwight Howard - ESPN Los Angeles
Seems like a guy who may be hitting some type of veteran zone.
Nah.......that's just the result of going over to Kobe's house and watching cartoons yesterday afternoon.
