But the question I've bolded, well, I'm not sure: but last night Allen was 5-10 for 17 points, had 8 assists and 1 turn, 2 boards, and 1 steal. So perhaps it was an anomaly (sample size issues here, I know), but I'd say that last night at least, he seemed capable of putting up reasonably efficient and productive numbers without having the ball all the time. But maybe the question is can he average closer to his career average without having the ball most of the time (there the answer is probably no). But is that what we need him to do?

Other question about Rasheed. Rasheed is the only big we've got who has in the past given us any reason to expect the kind of numbers he put up last night. The rest are too limited at this point in their careers. And, come to think of it, Rasheed since he's been here has never given us a reason to expect those numbers consistently. I'd say less so now since he is aging.

I think maybe the reason you and others are having trouble putting their finger on what's not right is that what's not right has to do not with some individual player who we have any reason to expect could be doing something they are not on a nightly basis, and not with who is or isn't starting, but with the relations among the parts. And I don't just mean are they or aren't getting along (though perhaps that is part of the problem). I mean are the relations among the parts such that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Right now, the answer is pretty obviously (to me) no. And that's exposed the very real limits to the individual abilities of players that we've come to think of as All-Stars.

No doubt, a better coach might be able to coax more out of them as individuals and generate better relations among the parts, but I'm not sure any coach out there, past or present, could make this group a championship team in this one season that they've been together. But then, like I say, maybe that's not the goal really. No doubt a better coach could make it seem less obvious that something was not right.

Ultimately, none of our players -- as they are playing this season -- are top five in the league at their position. And neither is our coach. That's a whole lot of individual problems, all multiplied when you try to fit the pieces together. I don't really see how, if one accepts that, we could expect to be doing any better than we are.

We are actually in first place right now, even with the terrible local economy.

I know we have some empty seats and all that, but so does every team. Also, we have a slightly bigger arena than most, so that helps.

Notice that there are other teams with sellout or better averages and they are still behind us.

So, if Dumars can rebuild while telling the fans that he's not and lead the league in attendance, then that's a pretty good accomplishment for him.

Actually, if you look back at prior years, we've been leading the league in attendance every single year, except for 05-06 when we were 2nd, behind Chicago.

We have the most BORING SELFISH STUCKUP HIGHBROW fans in pro sports. i hate The Palace.

Oklahoma City or San antonio crowds? Those ARE fans!

i will say that the fans that DO show up this year are much better than the past couple...mainly because they are offering such good deals that you're getting a less highbrow crowd that is there to be seen, and more of real fans (a lot more fans wearing pistons gear too).

Yeah....if you can convince your family to use the free tickets from Meijer to go to the Pistons instead of the Monster Truck Rally you only have to pay for parking and maybe a few 8 dollar beers.

Sorry but I think our paint protection was pretty good with Kwame in except for the Skola pick and rolls. It is almost impossible to beat a team that shoots close to 70% from the perimmiter. We hand hands in their faces and like Mr. Blaha would say...they coulnd't be bothered. I do not fault the Pistons for losing this one. I fault the ref for betting on the game and calling Dyce's rebound and put back, a foul before the shot. The only call this year that I saw that was a blatently a bad call was in the game with phoneix vs (can't remember...jazz,portland?) where Grant Hill took the ball to the hoop to end regulation and was almost flagrantly fouled but did not get the call. Even the commentators and Espn said it was a "strange" no-call. Same with the Dyce no-call here.

P.S. And what the Hail is with players arguing a call to the ref<Skola on the out of bounds possesion> and getting the refs to overturn the original call?!? Not to mention the rediculous reset of the shot clock?

Except for pick and rolls? Do you have any idea how many consecutive pick and rolls they ran with Scola? It was the bulk of those 6 minutes. If you taped the game, go rewatch and count them.

And paint protection? Against who? The biggest guy Houston had in the game was Scola. Its perimeter defense that was lacking. Look at the 3rd quarter, again, if you had the game taped. Why did Houston not get open much that quarter?
