I like it, but it doesn't hide the fact of the blunder Joe D had with trading Billups in the first place for AI that turned into a total mess and the downfall for the Pistons. Might be too little too late for Billups, but hopefully coaching and mentoring aside I hope Billups has enough to add on the court help and some leadership. I just hope we don't go out and sign Hamilton next lol.

If Billups does have a healthy full season and given decent playing time, maybe even starter or 6th man role, could for sure help lead the Pistons to the playoffs and maybe a better record then we could hope for with this team.

If he is healthy, you may be correct. This starting lineup ain't bad:

    PG: Billups
    SG: Knight
    SF: Smith
    PF: Monroe
    C: Drummond

    2nd unit:

    PG: Bynum
    SG: Pope
    SF: Datome
    PF: Charlie
    C: Kravtsov

    Bench: Singler, Mitchell

    Street clothes: Siva, Middleton, Jerebko

    Cut: English, Stuckey

I like Billups, but the age has caught up with somewhat. I am all in favor of giving him 15-20 minutes, but he basically killed the Clippers momentum last year with him being in the starting line up as the shooting guard. The injury recovery may have been part of the issue. He was not there during their 17 game win streak and he and Caron Butler were the deciding non factors in games 5 and 6 losses vs the Grizzlies and he even admitted he wasn't on his game.

He might be one of those guys who would be better served being the vet that runs the second unit....but I will let Mo coach the team and I won't start texting he and Joe my thoughts until December...........

Cbill can run the most disciplined half court offence in the NBA. But he needs a willing PG to learn this.
    I like this combo:
    BuP, Knight
    KCP
    Datome
    Jsmoo, Mitchell
    Drummund, Monroe
    let them shoot

We are going fast and athletic.... something that Billups can't do now (he's never been a burner to begin with). Folks are getting way out of hand thinking he's coming back to be the starter, or even the major backup. If he is forced into a starting role (unless a temp thing because of injury) our season is a complete failure. He is the guy to show the ropes and be a player/coach, not to be a major on the court addition.

I love bringing him back, but I think us fans have to understand why he is being brought back.

And, please no CV in the first 10. I'd rather have Jerebko.

In all honesty, we now have space above minimum salary, I would waive Stuckey to keep English.

I don't think anyone will pick up Charlie V. But he is more valuable to our team, rather than us paying him to play for someone else. He is a known value.

This is current Pistons payroll excluding : Detroit Pistons Team Salary | HOOPSWORLD | Basketball News & NBA Rumors $54,381,686 (including C-Bill). Minimum payroll is $52.811Mil. By cutting Stuckey total goes under $50Mil. So, Pistons will need $2.8mil in salaries to meet the minimum requirement.

The longer it goes on the less likely it gets that Stuckey gets waived. I don't see Joe waiving a player late in the game after all the other teams have their rosters set.

Can't even do it from the salary cap perspective unless signing someone else for about $3 mil, so what's the point?

    Joe owes nothing to Stuckey.
He already handed the guy the entire franchise and he screwed that up.

Let him play in Venezuela next year!

Just because Stuckey and Villanueva are signed to contracts that overvalues them, it doesn't mean that they can't help the team win.

Stuckey was 3rd on the team in gross scoring last year and 3rd on the team in assist (despite only starting in 24 games). He had 5 games over 20 points last year with a high of 32. He had 23 games with 5 or more assists with a high of 11. 37 different games with at least 1 3-point make. I could go on an on. If a guy like Siva had a 32 point game, we'd want Joe to lock him in. Stuckey was also 2nd on the team in FT makes, which is saying something. 4th on the team in total WS. He had the lowest tov rate of any of our guards.

Villanueva is an above average bench player, especially in the stretch 4 role. His PER with DET is about the same as it was before we got him, which is slightly above average. 20 games with double digit scoring. His scoring rate was 3rd on the team. He was 2nd on the team in 3-point makes. 3rd on the team in defensive rebound rate.

Stuckey and CV were 7th and 8th in PER on the team.

Realistically and honestly, they are not the worst players on our team. In some areas, they are close to the best (FT drawing, ast/tov ratio, 3-point shooting). We have a unique roster now with national critics pointing our our inability to stretch the floor... why not see how Charlie fits in and let his salary expire next year right before the big FA crop hits the market?

With Stuckey, just use him off the bench and for depth in case of injury. Keep trying to trade him. There must be some team that will desire a scoring guard that gets to the line with an expiring contract.

In summary, just because you don't like a player doesn't mean that they can't add value if used right by the coach.

I'd waive Stuckey, keep Villenueva. Release Siva or stash him. Take English's 2nd year.

Villenueva is useful. He is a damn good shooter.
