Detroit Pistons host the Atlanta Hawks 7:30 PM EDT TV: FSN Detroit / NBALP Radio: WDFN Comments on the game? ~~
I'm really curious how Flip is going to handle the backup pg situation. Arroyo has only missed one game, and during that game against the Spurs, CB only sat for 7 minutes, with Delfino subbing for him. Hopefully it will be a blow out situation, and we'll see Tay, Delfino, Hunter, and Acker getting time as the backup pg. May the best pg win.
Yeah this is a payback game, but more importantly it is the start of the Stretch run to the Playofss and the Pistons have to keep things rolling play to win. This game has two things to look out for. First look for the rotation that flip will use and how he will distribute the guards minutes. THis game will be a blow out so for both of those things it will be pretty hard to look at but it this game happens to be close than take a look at those two things. My perdiction Pistons will 106-87. WIll Acker get some burn in a blow out? Will Hunter be ready for the run? Will the bench give Detroit the depth down the stretch? Stay tuned we are counting down from 31 games left!:fingerscr
GAME CHAT IS OPEN! I won't be around much if at all. I checked the Canadian sched and the only game of interest is Orlando/Cleveland. Must... resist... The Darko Side... Of The Force...
Who gets more PT tonight... Darko or Acker? Is it possible that Darko's sunburn will keep him from performing up to his potential? So many storylines to follow.
I hope Acker gets some meaningful minutes. I don't like relying on Tayshaun and Delfino for the 3rd PG, I know they could do it... But the whole reason I am so stoked about Delfino is because he is going to be a valuable back-up for Tayshaun and Rip... not the PG spot. Remember the off-season, all the stories about how we needed help at the 3 more than anywhere else? Aside from that, Delfino has stated that he feels he is a natural SG, more than anything else. So, if it's a bit of a reach for him to feel comfortable at the 3, why try to stuff him into the 2?
How about the effort of Ben in this one? 17 rebounds (8 offensive), 4 assist, 5 steals, and 6 blocks!!! Also, the Pistons only took 11 3-pointers. It looked like playoff basketball.
I don't understand why wouldn't coach play Delfino and other guys more at least in fourth querter. 6:45 min to go with +18 advantage, all starters in. 3:04 to go with +15 freakin' points and once again no reserves after timout. Come on Flip, at least put Delfino in, shift Tayshaun to PG, whatever, but give some rest to Chauncey. I wonder how bad, Flip thinks, should be our reserves to lose 15 points in 3 min to a scrub team like ATL? I understand, that our guys are phenomenal athletes, plus Mike&Arnie are best in bussiness, but those are the games starters should get some rest. Game by game Flip's rotations are getting even more ridiculous.
the pistons were on cruise control anyway, those extra minutes for ben and chauncey won't affect how tired they are...but it is a little cause for concern i agree.
Nobody hates Hunter, but if he can't play, I don't want him in the game, and after 2 games, he's shown he can't play. Are you suggesting he play, no matter how bad he is? Reasoning like that is why Evans is still playing.
I agree that a few minutes here or there won't wear professional athletes out. And, while you sure can't play trying not to get injured, you surely will feel stupid if CB or BW blows out a knee or sprains an ankle after a game has been won. Besides you miss a perfect opportunity to develop bench players. The second half of the 4th (at least the last four or five minutes) could have been valuable playing time and experience for the bench.
some bright spots: 52 points in paint, 28 fta, 30 assists, very efficient scoring from rip and sheed for those who had as one of their post-all star goals to see us go inside more, there's something to smile about. on the other hand: hasn't anybody with any influence told Flip to get those guys out of the game when up 15+ in the 4th?? Tell him that he can put them right back in as soon as the lead is slashed to 10 and that it'll all be good.
Good win. When we're so good, all we can nitpick is 4 or 6 minutes of overplay for the starters, I'll take that. Lost in all of this is serious (and continuing) kudos from Pistons fans for the job Flip has done. He's making Detroit history through the regular season. Delfino's time is coming. Remember, Prince waited his turn on a less talented team, and came out to save us in the 2003 playoffs. Like Milicic, Delfino is in a waiting game. Unlike Milicic, he's shown he will keep working hard no matter what his minutes.
is this how this team's gonna handle the backup PG position? By playing CB 42 minutes every night??? Why play Ben and CB that much, especially when there are so many games in so little time? I already start to hate that damn trade with Orlando...
