I agree lets bring in Samb.
Hey that's cool! Congratulations Lee! What are the odds that you'd be standing directly behind that really big muscular guy when they snapped that picture?
Sure, we agree that if that's all the PT these guys are going to get, then it really doesn't make much difference. Might as well save Mr. D some money. But if Dyess comes down with flu-like symptoms and has to sit out a game or two, Sheed gets in foul trouble, and we're getting killed on the defensive glass, then it'd be nice to have someone like DD to help out Amir and/or Max. We've got a spare roster spot and only two/three days to decide if we want to use it. After that, we no longer have the choice to add an asset for the playoffs. I'm in favor of spending Mr. D's money and picking up an additional asset. We know DD isn't going to be trouble in the locker room. We certainly don't need another raw, inexperienced, skinny, shot blocker - we already have that covered. We don't have a strong, physical, defensive presence that has 15 years of professional experience. If I'm JD, the only reason I don't pull the trigger is if I'm afraid my head coach is going to get out of line and stop playing/developing Max and Amir. But I don't think JD allows fear to be part of his decision making process. Edit: I suppose if Taser is fat and obviously not able to perform, that'd be another reason to not bring him aboard.
Well, the way I see it. If our chances have fallen to the point where DET needs to rely on DD or Samb. This team is screwed and it's a moot point.
This is not our starting Center we are talking about here.
According to McCosky's blog: Anyone wanna take a stab at who this "other big man" might be?
Why doesn't McCrapsky want to go throught the rosters and guess? Is he getting paid to do anything better than that?
My top guesses: Calvin Booth (he has a player option next year.) Very cheap though. Kwame Brown. Michael Doleac. Also possible: Ratliff/ Robert Swift/ Songaila I'd take Dale Davis over all these guys.
I don't know...I'd take Ratliff. he's an excellent shot blocker. He's had injuries, but Kander has proven his ability to keep even the most injury prone guys on the floor.
Maybe Don Nelson came to his senses about Chris Webber.
I guess I'd think about Brown or Ratliff too. Robert Swift is pretty fiesty. I think Swift has a qualifying option thingy next year. I'm not really sure what the buy-out rules are, but it looks like those top 3 names I listed don't have any complicating factors. Ratliff is owed $11M this year, so it would be a big buyout... but they are going to pay him the rest anyway this year, so I guess it doesn't matter. The reason that I'd ultimately go with Dale is that we know exactly how he'll fit in and interact with the others.
Sure, but the Pistons have shotblocking. If all the team needed were shotblocking they could just zap Flip's memories and tell him Amir's 28 and a veteran of five lottery teams. What we don't have is a big body who can deny the low post against the strongest big men in the league (except for Sheed, who's too valuable to play that role all night long), and DD's much stronger than Ratliff or any of the others except Kwame Brown. And DD's a much better help defender than Kwame Brown.
I gotta go with TheLow on this one. Theo has looked pretty good in limited minutes since returning from injury last week. His numbers aren't stellar yet but I think he could mos-def help Sheed with some interior D.
Maybe Chris Mihm as well, although after this string of injuries he's pretty useless. Jason Collins? I might take him over Davis. It could conceivably be Jerome James or Malik Rose, both of whom I like. Etan Thomas? ...Ben Wallace? I just hope it's not Francisco Elson.
I actually put him on my list and then deleted him when I thought about it. The Lakers need to keep Mihm in case Bynum doesn't come back this year.
I hope that it's Marcus Camby.
I think you undervalue the hard foul.
I think Swift is finished in the NBA. He broke is knee again (or tore his ligaments... ) 5 games back from his double knee surgery. I guess I would rather have Davis than all those mentioned. I think the Pistons could really use an enforcer type to discourage penetration.
