maybe for Dumars eyes the potential difference was not so big between monroe and cousisns....to give away his young assets. ( I do not believe that teams wanted rip and tay)
from watching his highlight reels, it looks like he refuses to go to the right, is used to finishing with soft layups in the paint, and is a pretty nice passer. I'm afraid he may be a little soft. Am I wrong?
Looking forward to seeing this guy play. I really wanted Udoh, but after he was gone Monroe was my next choice.
Honestly, I felt exactly the same way when we got Monroe. I think this may be a blessing in disguise.
__________________ I'm with Roscoe on this. Greg Monroe could be a very, VERY good player. I would be REALLY PISSED OF if, having Monroe to pick, we end up picking Ed Davis or Aldrich instead.
This is a Chad Ford March update on Monroe: The Good: Monroe is the most skilled big man in college basketball. He's a terrific passer who has a great basketball IQ. He's a good ball handler for his size and can take bigger players off the dribble. Monroe is also a solid shooter with even a little bit of 3-point range. He has an array of strong moves in the post. The Bad: Monroe is not an explosive athlete. He typically plays below the rim and has issues with his lateral quickness. He's improved as he's gotten in better shape this season, but he's still a notch below most NBA bigs. Monroe also has the tendency to disappear for stretches, although over the course of the past two months he's been much more consistent. The Upside: Monroe is having a terrific sophomore season. While there are concerns about his athleticism and drive, it's hard not to fall in love with his skills in the paint. Few NBA big men have his abilities or unselfishness. Still, many scouts and GMs aren't sold. A big tournament should seal a top-10 pick for Monroe.
I like the pick...at 7. Would not have liked it had been 3rd or 4th.... If he turns out to better passer than C-Webb, or even Stuckey, then we are in business.
I dont know much about him, but it sounds like a solid pic. I am one who is glad we didn't get Cousins. He's too much of a gamble.
I thought Cousins sounded like a slightly more eloquent Kendrick Perkins in his post-draft interview. (That's not a good thing)
Better talent left on the table, but JD just had to follow the herd. Hardly any surprises in the top ten picks. He got his big.
Yep. People are saying he's soft, nope. He simply has no hops. So you keep seeing layup, after shorty hook, after layup, instead of a JMax power wash. But, Laimbeer had no hops and look how he turned out. I'm mixed with this kid, all the skills in the world, but no right hand, and no hops. But again, I don't think he's soft, CV is soft (except with women).
I watched some youtube of monroe and he passes really well... fancy pg behind the back/ behind the head... no lookers... threading the needle in traffic... really good vison ... Point Center anyone?
I was really hoping for Cousins, but I'm willing to give Monroe a chance. I think some people confuse guys who have skill and use finesse as being soft. I try not to do that where possible. I mean, if you have the skill to get around a defender why not use it, rather than just barrel into him. Would you rather someone skilled like that, or someone with no skill who can only jump into guys or get blocked? Maybe he will be somewhat similar to Chris Webber. Here's hoping.
I like Greg Monroe, just don't love him, First time I saw GM play as a Frosh I said WOW!!! But he never turned the corner in his soph season. Now as we all know GTown is a tough program to really show off your skills, that system really limits players, but they PLAY DEFENSE, with the Thompson's, defense is non-negotiable. I must say, I'm intigued by the length and versatility that a - Daye / Monroe / JJ - frontcourt affords us in about 3 seasons. Not a bad pick at all, in fact it's a rather good one.I'm still hoping to see a trade for Big AL Jefferson.
