OK, I was in the camp with blueadams in terms of wanting Joe to cut Stuckey and amnesty BoT so we could spend like drunken sailors on free agents this summer (2013). I have changed my mind. Heck I don't even care if BoT and CV are on the roster all season, I think their expiring contracts are far more valuable for US to carry this year and have the money to spend next year. It also helps that we don't have a 1st round draft pick in the upcoming draft, because what I'm about to propose will knock everyone's socks off! And I haven't been drinking.......hey blue, check THIS OUT:

Here's a round about payroll for us next year:
    Smith - $13.5M
    Jonas - $4.5M
    Brandon - $3.75M
    Bynum - $2.85M
    Pope - $2.5M
    Luigi - $1.5M
    Singler - $1M
    Middleton - $1M
    Mitchell - $.8M
    Total - $31.4M

Assuming a salary cap of $60M, that gives us $28.6M for next summer!

Now lets get to the, What If's:
Many of us are already trying to trade Monroe, so what if in the summer Joe decides.....to part ways with Monroe because we already have Josh Smith.......Who on earth could we use that money on? Well rumor has it a guy in NY may be opting out........Hmmmm

What if we can clear Jonas' $4.5M off the books a year early, that takes us up to $33.1M. We could offer a Greg Monroe a 5 year $70M contract and the first year would start at about $12M, that still leaves $20M......Who on Earth could we use that money on? Well rumor has it a guy in NY may be opting out.....Hmmmm

I know we're a small market, but we can easily position ourselves to go after Carmelo this summer, we'll have some things no other team has- Cap Space AND YOUNG Talent!!!!

    Imagine this lineup:
    PG: (A much improved) BK7 - Bynum
SG: (A more experienced) KCP - Singler
SF: Carmelo - Luigi - Middleton
PF: Josh Smith - Tony Mitchell
C: Greg Monroe - Andre Drummond

That my FRIENDS is a legit contender!!!!

    But why stop there?
What If we can get Rondo, in a trade- let's offer up the following: Knight, Monroe and Jonas ($11.5M) for Rondo. That means next summer's payroll looks like this:
    Smith - $13.5M
    Rondo - $13M
    Bynum - $2.85M
    Pope - $2.5M
    Luigi - $1.5M
    Singler - $1M
    Middleton - $1M
    Mitchell - $.8M
    Total - $36.15M

Again assuming cap of $60M that gives us $23.85M, plenty of room to sign Carmelo.
So how do you like this lineup:
    PG: Rondo - Bynum
    SG: Pope - Singler
SF: Carmelo - Luigi - Middleton
    PF: Smith - Mitchell
    C: Drummond

That my FRIENDS is a Championship Favorite!!!!

Bill I'm talking about the cap for the 2014/2015 season, I'm assuming a $1.3M increase.

I see. If you are dreaming to make the ultimate team, why would you put Carmelo on it? Just take Kevin Durant instead.

He's not a free agent until the summer of 2016, he has no opt options in his contract. But it's possible to carry our cap flexibility forward by structuring contracts in a way where they fall off the books in 2016.

The Lakers are trying to dump salaries and amnesty folks (if Kobe approves ) to make a run at Lebron or Melo. Not sure if Lebron would leave Miami to come to LA when his heart is in Cleveland so that leaves Melo as their principle target.

With LaLa being a B celebrity, I would think she would convince Melo to take less money to be in Hollywood so she can get more camera action rather than move to Motown...

The other day I read that the 2014 free agency class is overrated, the only one worth it is Lebron.

It left me thinking about it...

So, we can pick and chose anybody who is free as they are lining up to sign with Pistons?

YES! For me this is the fun part of the year. We get to pretend! We don't have to watch the reality of a team void of talent, leadership and structure. So, in my off-season world.......We get to assemble dream teams!

Those are based on the reality of what actually happens in games during the actual season. In this league, the games are played in my head :)

Over Singler? Yeah Ill take Granger or Deng, considering they are huge upgrades.

Sorry, I don't like Melo. I don't consider him a stud. Bad work ethic, bad shot selection. Hugely talented. Could have been something.

At this point he is just a rich mans Michael Beasley to me. After every off season he looks like he joined the National Bigmac Association.

It is my sincere hope that our Detroit Pistons NEVER even remotely consider obtaining the services of Carmello Anthony.

I'm afraid that Carmello would seriously cut into Pizza Guy's playing time. I mean, you don't sign the MVP of the Italian League so he can sit on the bench and watch Melo jack up shots.

I believe that this thread is ridiculous.

Melo will never in A MILLION years sign with the Pistons.
Joe-D is far too stupid to ever acquire a valuable asset - like Rondo - through trade.

Melo's window is closing, he's won't be playing the, small market vs big market game next summer.
