Dantley did take over for George Karl for a short-time when Karl was sick.

I feel like that sequence of events could never happen again with a team. The team would have been broken up or traded like the 2000 Trail Blazers before getting the chance to win. Daly would be gone "because he couldn't win the big one".

Think of the beating Isiah would have taken in here after "the steal".

Bird used to say that the first thing he checked when the All Star teams were announced was if Laimbeer made the team. He said he hated it when he did because Laimbeer would jovially greet him when he got on the bus with, "Hey Larry, how's it going?". Bird said he always answered, " F U, Bill." and kept walking.

Many guys bring up a lot of important points here on this thread.
I'm finding out that there's a lot of hurt feelings from this time period.
The Pistons were unique to the time period less for their style of play.
More for their changing of image. To adapt DA RAIDER MISTIQUE...
was something nobody wanted to see in the NBA. The game WAS more
physical back then. We simply put our mark on that time period...and
it went against everything that the Jordan led NBA was becoming.

I love that exchange between Bird and Laimbeer. In the clip Bird claims that Laimbeer would deliberately stick his foot under jump shooters to get them to roll an ankle. Then he started doing it to Laimbeer in retaliation. I don't remember Laimbeer ever being injured, though...For a guy who never worked out in the off season he held up pretty well.

I totally forgot about the Pistons/Raiders connection.

The Bad Boys led the way for the hip-hop era of the early 00's.

It is unbelievable that Isiah didn't make the Dream Team.

I watched it last night. Great doc for us who weren't around the Pistons or NBA at the time.

I really enjoyed this documentary. It's important to get both sides -- both the good and the bad -- and this documentary had a lot of that. Zeke didn't come off looking that great in my opinion, but he probably didn't deserve to. He has had a ton of issues with his personality and the huge chip he has on his shoulder. I do think the media made too big a deal about the whole Bird/Thomas/Rodman spat with Rodman commenting about Bird getting a lot more pub simply because he was white. Big deal. I was surprised Jordan and Pippen did interviews for this although it should have been pointed out to Jordan -- and not just pointed out -- how bad he dissed the Pistons before the Famous Walk-off. Jordan, IMO, kept Zeke from the Dream Team. I don't believe Rodman was ever in the Olympics either.

The Dantley stuff was great -- and telling. He came off as petty for wanting to get "his touches" even if it was bad for the team. Best Pistons personnel move ever to send him packing -- even better than the Sheed acquisition. I remember how methodical the offense became when Dantley got the ball. That said, the dude could score. Aguirre was just a better fit.

Would have liked to hear more from The Microwave and how integral he was. Agree with some other statements that Rose was miscast in the remix show. He clearly took a swipe at Webber, which was uncalled for.

Aguire asking to have rodman replace him in the starting lineup was huge too.

It would have been good move for Josh to do on the current Piston team...but there was no Rodman type to insert....

As bad as it appeared Jalen was, has there any other player who loved the Pistons more than him...especially since he never played for them. I am pretty sure he would love a position in the organization even if was director of marketing or locker room maintenance.

As a youth living in Boston me and my friends never had an issue with what Isiah said about Bird. Bird never had one either. He defended Thomas at a press conference during the Finals.

Rodman was a different story especially given his status in the L at the time.

Isiah laughed like it was a ridiculous statement and sarcastically agreed with Rodman. He sounds like he's moments away from hurting someone in the audio and could barely get the words out.

It was a backhand comment ... They were talking about the Pistons two missed opportunities to possibly have 3 or 4 rings when Bird intercepted the in ball pass in 87 where the Pistons thought they had game five and could have won the EC championship in game 6 back at the dome... and when it appeared that the Pistons were on their way to winning the championship in game 6 of the 88 finals, when the phantom foul stole the game from the Pistons. Either Bill Simmons or Doug Collins asked Jalen did he ever have an incident near the end of a game that cost him a championship and he said yes "something happen in 1993".....blindly referring to the CWebb timeout withot actually saying it. The audience knew what he was talking about though based on their reaction.

Wouldn't it have been pretty silly to pretend it didn't happen when they asked him like that?

I used to find Jalen very entertaining but I've grown tired of him. He's reached the stage where he's almost ruining all Grantland NBA videos with the same old stuff he's been running since the first videos. I need my Jalen dose in smaller portions and more seldom.

Jalen is full of himself. I am sick of him.
