Detroit Pistons - NBA | Pistons fire sideline reporter Eli Zaret | The Detroit News
The big termination here is Pete Skorich who was Eli's boss. He'd been with the Pistons for 30 years and kinda been an important cog on that end of the business. I guess the Gores henchmen are leaving no stone unturned...
This was somewhat of an urgent matter, too, since NBA games will be starting again in another 4-16 months.
"I've never worked with a better group of people than with Pete"
I'm pretty much ok with this.
When I think of a group of people, I think of Pete Skorich.
I'd like Bernie Smilovitz as his replacement.
Wow, 2 zingers in a row! Bill is on his game!
It's easy to take it for granted, but we have some really funny[STRIKE]-looking[/STRIKE] people on this board.
So who's next?
John Mason, Greg Kelser or George Blaha?
Or Bill Laimbeer? (OUR Bill Laimbeer!)
I think that Special K would be the most likely to get canned out of the three that you mentioned.
Maybe Jerry >the security guy??
I see George Blaha as next on the hit list.........
He does Wolverine games to, so he has a gig to keep him going.
Did I read the Mason was radio DJ, or something as his regular job??
Well the Lakers kept Chick Hearn employed as their play-by-play guy until he died at the age of 85 in 2002. Blaha is only 66, so probably will be broadcasting Pistons games long after JJ, Daye and Brandon Knight have retired...
I don't really remember a time when Blaha wasn't the play by play guy for the Pistons. I grew up with this guy.
-however; if Ernie Harwell can get fired...
Blaha been there since the mid seventies...
But Ernie Harwell was the radio voice I grew up on from the time I was 5 yrs old in 1960 until I escaped Detroit in 1980. He was the standard IMO despite listening to golden boy Vin Scully out here Cal the past 30 yrs
The New 107.5 WGPR -
His signal is kinda weak out here in Montana.....
Ah yes..use to listen to this station at night when I was enrolled at EMU during the mid 70's . That's where the DJ Electrifying Mojo blew up after first showcasing his skills as a student DJ on the Michigan campus.
When Mojo took over at WGPR, the Urban Music on FM took off...
Mason's 5-9 schedule is to early for me to catch out here.
I stuck it out with WCHB back in the day, even as though others were starting up. They had their station on Ecorse Rd....close to my home back then. The signal was crisp and clear.
I used to like Eli's side line reporting. He did it for what 5-6 years? Not a crushing loss, be interesting to see what they have in his place.
Pete Skorich though was irreplaceable. I don't know what they will do there - lol.
