By picking the player for the other team or what do you mean? Why can we trade the pick on draft night?

I think you can if you pick for the other team and then trade.

    Aah, forgot about that rule.

Just to be the devil's advocate, a deal that effectively prohibits Joe from trading our 1st rounder for the next 5 years might just be a blessing in disguise.

Can I have the drugs that you guys are getting?

Puhlease. Josh Smith for 12.5? Everyone knows he isn't taking a PAYCUT to come to Detroit. He will get a max contract, despite not being worth it. Deal with it. JJ Redick is getting a payday.

Look at were we have been and are about to be. The old are once the starters and from what of the merry-go-round? Fan vision has seen the circular turf: from bobbing of the current horse verticals, to the situated bench ride of enjoying the music and lights from a consistent level. The circular round arc is ageless. What it all means is how you understand: the up and down and then the down-under.

All must follow the myth: Your Life Is a Myth - THE FORBIDDEN HEIGHTS - MYTH - TRUTH - ILLUSION

Problem is....our paradigm allows for little change. This time and instance, I'd like to just stop the merry-go-round.

Throwing a few more FA names out there.
    • Andrew Bynum: might be more attainable than Josh Smith type players because of his season-long injury. If he can be back to what he was, we would have one of the toughest, biggest frontcourts.
    • Tiago Splitter: serviceable backup big. We probably won't get him unless SAS hits the reset button.
    • Trevor Ariza: the forgotten man. Cheaper Tony Allen.
    • Gary Neal (R): serviceable backup combo guard. Might be a good pickup if we let Bynum walk and cut Stuckey.

There is nothing that sells tickets more than "serviceable" players. The last couple of "serviceable" summer pick-ups that Joe D signed were named Ben Gordon and Charlie Villenueva.

No arguments there. But, if minor improvements are affordably possible, we should go for these in parallel with our big ticket FA targets. For instance, I'd rather have Splitter coming off the bench than Maxiell or TRG.

How in the heck can you put the "serviceable" label on Gordon and BoT?
Those two guys would really have to step up their games in order to climb up to the "serviceable" level.

No argument from me. I think they were labeled "serviceable" BEFORE Joe signed them.

In all seriousness (as if that's even remotely capable around here), let's just assume we have $25M in cap room, how do you spend it? Personally I don't think that it's enough $$$ to do anything with, I think you HAVE to cut Stuckey and Villanueva to get the cap room up to $37.5M.

I think the answer is in some form of trade vs. an outright FA signing.

You can sign 5 "serviceable" combo guards for $25 mil.

    This year's FA market sucks.

I'd go hard after Tony Allen and Paul Millsap in the FA market.
    I'd resign Jose Calderon.
Then send Stuckey, Singler and Jonas to Boston for a 1 year Paul Pierce rental.

So, for next year we'll have:
    Knight-Allen-Pierce-Moose-Drummond
Bench: Jose, 1st rounder, Millsap, Kenny, Middleton, TRG, CV

We'll have a full year to see what is possible with a stud SF. With CV & Pierce coming off the books next summer, we'll have close to $25M going into FA next year.

I like it. But I think Pierce retires as a Celtic.
