    The issue is that Atlanta is losing faster the professional tankers....they went 2-10 in February and are 0-2 so far in March and we are still 3 games behind them and hat 13 out of their last 14 games.....and we have not gained an inch on the 8th spot

    The problem is we went 5-8 in February and we are 1-2 this month.

    That's 6-10 vs their 2-12 since Feb 1st, and we are still 3 games back with 21 games remaining for us and 23 remaining for them. The real issue is that we have only 7 home games remaining and 14 on the road.

    Playing a bunch of the top teams in that 21 too - I just can not see us winning enough to get that 8th spot.

    That's why there should be a concerted effort to give up the Playoff mantra - Joe is gone anyway, and we have a stand in coach. Gores needs to give them a directive to play our young guys, and assess what we have and showcase any dead weight.
    Let's see if Gigi can get his shot going, if JJ can regain some pre-achillies form, if Mitchell can get back to his 1st year college potential, if KCP can play through the rookie wall, if Bynum can shine enough to cut him loose for something better in return.

    There is a game pending between Atlanta and Detroit that was postponed because of the snow and all that, am I right?

    It would be interesting if a playoff spot is decided in that game...

    We're 24-37 right now.
    With 7 home games left...
    And 14 games on the road remaining...
    I don't see a playoff spot soon.
    Many of these are against top teams.
    So I see us going 7-14 the rest of the way.
    That makes a record of 31-51.
    Whoever predicted that record...
    Is a visionary...
    Or just lucky...

    With the teams around the 8th worst spot playing .350 ball, we would only be able to win 4 to stick with them.

    Let's say 3 wins to put us in 8th worst position and and look at the remaining schedule with conceivable W/Ls and ones that could go either way:

    @Minnesota L
    @Boston W/L
    Sacramento W/L
    @Toronto L
    Indiana L
    @Denver L
    @Suns L
    @Clippers L
    @Utah W
    Cleveland W/L
    Miami L
    @Philadelphia W
    Milwaukee W
    @Indiana L
    @Brooklyn L
    Boston W/L
    @Atlanta W/L
    @Cleveland W/L
    @Chicago L
    Toronto L
    @Oklahoma City L

    I see it as 3 probable wins and 6 games that could go either way. If we win any of those 6, I think we lose the pick.

    On the flip, if we win all 6, we end up with 33 - so Atlanta needs to win no more than 6 (as they hold the advantage on us I think).
    For this exercise, I am going to assume they are as bad as us as I have not been following their progress/downfall. Their schedule and my estimate at W/L is:

    @ Golden State L
    @ L.A. Clippers L
    @ Utah W
    vs Milwaukee W
    vs Denver L
    @ Charlotte L
    vs Toronto L
    vs New Orleans W
    @ Toronto L
    vs Phoenix L
    @ Minnesota L
    vs Portland L
    @ Washington L
    vs Philadelphia W
    vs Chicago L
    vs Cleveland W/L
    @ Indiana L
    vs Detroit W/L
    vs Boston W/L
    @ Brooklyn L
    vs Miami L
    vs Charlotte L
    @ Milwaukee W

    So 5 wins and 3 W/L. If they win 2 or more of the W/L then our 9 wins would not be enough.

    In summary
    - if we win 9 or more of the remaining 21 (nearly .500 ball) we have a chance
    - else we need to tank it up on the 6 that could go either way

    I keep thinking that the Hawks will wake up before we do, so if there is a chance we need to win now to at least get within one game or a tie to make it interesting....I figure at least 3 of those teams below us will continue to lose more than we will because they have been directed to tank. Of course we will wind up in the disaster zone a half game out of the playoff spot or a half game out the 8th lottery pick.......because ....we are the Pistons and that is what we do............:gaah:

    They've had some injuries too. Millsap has missed the best part of 2 weeks, Teague missed some games, some of their backup bigs were also out. They should be getting healthy in time to cement a playoff spot. We have had no such excuses.

    I've got to hand it to Joe. Most years I gripe about picking 8th, but this year I'd be pumped to pick there.

    The good of the night:

    New York won (If we want our lottery draft pick, we must root for that)
    Pistons lost (If we want a draft pick, that's the way to do it)
    Boston won (If we want our lottery draft pick, we must root for that)
    Pelicans won (we must root for them to win so they can't steal our position in the lottery)

    The bad of the night:

    Kings lost
    Pistons lost
    (It's bad if we're aiming at the playoffs) :(
    Lakers lost

    About Atlanta, the game is still going on, they are down by 15 in the 4th.

    Games to follow on saturday:

    Knicks @ Cavaliers (one has to win this, right?)
    Hawks @ Clippers
    Jazz @ Philadelphia (it would be nice if Utah win this, they will come closer to our record)

    I will be at the Staples center Saturday night doing my part and cheering for a.............Hawks loss.
    The Jazz seem to be choking hard lately and as bad the Sixers are, they might beat the tanking Jazz.

    Are we in tank mode?!?!

    Same number of wins as NY and Cleveland now - one more loss for us and wins for them and we are in 8th....

    This team does not have to tank - perimeter offense and defence is nonexsistent - and in todays NBA that's enough.

    Its pretty much over now. You can almost see the 5 game losing streak in the making after the Sac game. Even if ATL continues to lose there are other teams in the hunt too.

    It is what it is. Not much to do about it other than hope we can get a new GM before Dumbars spends all the money on Monroe and Stucky. I could not stand it if we came back with the same stupid team next year.

    A couple of comments. ATL played well enough Saturday night that they could be coming out of their 5 week slump...which means it could be over for us as it relates to making the playoffs. If we could only make up 1.5 games on a team that has lost 13 of their last 14 then we don't need to go to the playoffs. I feel however, if we got there, we would give some effort and at least win game 3..........vs the Pacers it they were the # 1 seed.

    Hoping that teams such as NY and Cleveland and maybe even the Lakers could possibly surpass us if they are playing the Bucks, Jazz and Magic and we could move down the ladder to the 8th and possibly the 7th lottery pick.

    I am thinking Gores will let Dumars just ride it out until the end and not renew the contract. He has probably already been relieved of his deal making duties and is just lame duck biding time and sitting back eating popcorn. He may not even be attending the games anymore??

    You can't fire him before the 25th Bad Boy celebration at the end of the month and then speculate if he or Rodman will actually show up for the festivities....

    Does he think that the purpose of being on the team together is to lose as many games as possible?

    Just think how confused Monroe would be if we had 4 quality bigs.
