I just took a peek at tonight's standings and it may be worst than what we think it is. Our best chance maybe trying to win and make the playoffs and suffer the opening round sweep.

Did anyone check the latest NBA standings NBA.com - 2013-2014 Conference Regular Season Standings

Currently all of the teams outside the lottery are involved in what appears to be semi tank free fall. If you add up their current active win/loss streaks, all of them including the Pistons are a combined 3 and 37. The Pistons have slipped?? or moved to number 11 with the Pelicans now tanking the 10th spot after tanking 4 games in a row. The Knicks and the Cavs have not budged all week holding on to the 8th and 9th lottery spots with both losing 3 in a row. Of course the Celtics and the Sixers are tanking the worst with 5 and 11 losses in a row respectively.

All of the teams below us will continue to lose in my opinion and we may be stuck between 10th and 12th when all is said and done.
There are only about 8 winnable games left on the Pistons schedule, which might unfortunately put us in the dreaded dead zone, unless the Hawks hit rock bottom.

Maybe time to release somebody or buy out a contract and sign JIMMMER if he stays out there with no other takers. I read that he was hitting over 45% from beyond the arc which could spread the floor and win 5 more games if that three falls at the right time....just a thought to keep us out the dead zone....or just lose the remaining 25 games to secure a probable top 3 pick.............

On the other hand, if we win all of our remaining games, we can still have a winning season.

Deep down inside I hope we can go 18-7 and grab the 6th seed...(we are only 4 games back of that slot), but seems like every loss is a "coaching" loss, so winning is probably not the agenda around PistonPalace.org

No problem obvously. Playing starters 40 min per game guarantees tired legs for the last 15 or so games...

I'd like to see an avatar with JD and Sheed driving the tank.
The last one was so PF classic. Just doesn't seem like we'd
    really be tanking without it.

I'm afraid we have too much talent to fall into the bottom 8 but not enough to make the playoffs. We are destined for the dreaded DISASTER ZONE!!

We should have signed Collins and started him the rest of the season. Nobody would dare accuse us of tanking out of fear of looking homophobic.

Terrible thing to root for your team to lose to get a draft pick. Been like this since 2009

And look at the great draft picks we got. It's the best thing about this team. A borderline big man all-star at the age of 20 who got screwed by the elimination of the center position.

The only reason why we are still cheering for a high lottery pick is because every year we win too many games in April that prevent us from getting either a top 5 pick or at least a pick 1 or 2 places higher than what we wanted. So other than Dre we haven't been really satisfied with any of Joe's other picks in that lottery range>>(Monroe, Knight and Pope). Plus we are still waiting for that ultimate chance for a do over of the 2003 draft, that will eventually restore the glory!

Lot of articles you can find with good arguments on how tanking does not work and is not an effective rebuilding strategy. One big reason is it makes all
your current players look bad. Its harding trading assets from a 20 win team. On the flip side, say we just miss the playoffs but win 38 games. Then guys like Monroe, Stuckey look better and perhaps worth a sign and trade where we get back someone else's top pick.

Its different when you do like what Sanantonio did in 1998 where you have an old vetertan team not going anywhere so you sit you vets and get lucky
in the draft. But when you already have a team full of young players your just hurting yourself by losing. The young players get discouraged and want to leave and you have a hard time getting anything for them because other GMs dont want to break the bank for players from 20 win teams.

Its better to win now and let things fall where they may. Besides what happens next year when the pick is only what - top 3 protected?

Next year we kick butt and they get our #26 pick (optimistic). So we are not only shifting the timing, but the value. No brainer.

Before this season I seem to remember thinking this was the year we give them the 20 something pick. Oh well.:noidea:

I hear ya....like I said, I would rather win and get into the playoffs as you never know when Wade will go down etc in May.... Besides we have a chance to get the sixth spot if were playing all of the tankers and can move ahead of the Bobcats, Hawks and Nets.

If we start winning and the players believe in themselves then you may win just like those underrated, overly confident 2003-2007 Pistons did.

If we got the 8th pick, he may turnout to be as bad as an Anthony Bennett etc...but if we can't win more than 10 of the last 25 games, the result is the disaster zone, and you pretty much may have to tank the last last 10 if it the math works out...:cheeky-smiley-012::bs::puke::boom:.

Tanking can land you franchise players like LeBron, Durant, etc. How is that a bad strategy? Obviously, you don't tell players to tank. You stealth tank. You use rotations that are "building for the future."

Signing Tanya Harding might be a smart move.

    Tonight's starting rotation
    Siva PG
    KCP SG
    Mitchell C
    GiGi SF
    BoT PF
    JJ sixth man

The problem is we would throw off the Spurs defensive sets and win the game...
