The odds of winning 21 in a row at home starting next game is about 2,000,000 to 1 if every game is an even match up.

If we take the team with the 2nd best home record in the NHL- St. Louis at 24-3-4, then the odds of them going on a 21 win streak starting tomorrow is only about 217 to 1. It's tough to calculate how many seasons it would take them to accomplish it if they stayed exactly this good at home going forward, but I'm estimating that it would take 30+ seasons.

The Wings may have just set a record that will never be broken. Hockey will probably cease to exist in its current form before another team beats it.

I guess I will resurrect this thread as the Wings have fallen on hard times lately and know one has mentioned it for three weeks.

After they set an NHL record with the 23 straight home wins, they have gone 3-8 and have fallen 7 pts behind the division leading Blues and are 2pts away from starting the post season on the road. Looks like a change back to # 1 goalie Jimmy Howard started the slump, and that was aided by injuries to key players like Bertuzzi and Lidstrom. They just got beaten on back to back nights in SoCal by the Kings and the Ducks by the combined score of 9-2 and still need to make a visit to the Shark Tank on Saturday....

This all makes that winning streak all the more unbelievable. They are not dominators, they just had a Lin-like streak that went on beyond all probability.

Yeah they lost....the refs controlled the game and the flow with all of those penalties and a couple of quirky goals got by Howard... Just need one road W to and three home W's to get to the next round.

So, do we start game two with a 5 on 3 advantage? i.e. do the power plays carry over?

Heinrich Zetterburg got his head slammed into the glass with intent during the first game........

Wings answer the call for a victory in game 2... and Todd Bertuzzi goes for Weber right away.

Very close series with identical scores in both games. Detroit has a 2 shot advantage, which isn't much.
Next two games are in Detroit and hopefully.........home ice advantage kicks in.

Predators take home ice advantage back with a 3-2 win at the Joe. Looks like the first team to score has won each game 3-2... Wings need to score first in each of the next three games.

Down 2 games to 1........the Wings needed a victory at home. They didn't get it.

    We out shot them 41-17.
    We won 45 face-offs to their 33.
We had 7 power plays to their 3.
We had 28 hits to their 20.

Problem was their goalie stopped 40 of 41 shots.
Our guy stopped 14 of 17 shots.

We lost 3-1...a hot goalie can kill playoff hopes.

When is the last time the Wings had a hot goalie? 2008?

Or during the last six games of the 22 game home ice streak this season when the back- up goalie was minding the net? :ner-ner:

In case anybody cares.....we are done. Went 8-15 -4 after the record setting home ice record due to injuries and wimpered out in the first round.

Looks like we got get younger, faster and tougher to get another Cup to display in the Joe.

    Good effort guys!

No doubt. Red Wing fans have been spoiled over the years.

    * Twenty-one (21) straight trips to the playoffs.
    * Six (6) trips to the Stanley Cup Finals in the last 18 years.
    * Four (4) Stanley Cup championships in the last 16 years.
    * Etc., etc., etc.
