I thought the list looked reasonable. You have to look at who is behind Dre and KCP.

    Some really good defenders there.

I'd move KCP to #19 and Rubio to #20.

    Defense wins championships.

The Pistons have arguably two top 20 defensive players.

Detroit finished 12th in the NBA in points allowed last season at 101.4 ppg. Of course, they led the league in this category in 2003-04. If the focus of this year's draft, free agency targets, and summer workouts is to continue improving defense, perhaps the Pistons take that next step in 2016-17.

And that doesn't count Morris either.

I also think that Stanley has a good shot at being on that list in the coming years.

How many NBA titles did the Phoenix Suns take home when they didn't worry about defense?

Didn't care, they aren't the Pistons
And they weren't the best shooters.
Don't care about the Warriors either, even though Curry is ador'bs.

On a points per possession basis I don't think the Suns were that bad defensively. By the eye either. They gave up points because of their pace.

They had bad luck. They got hosed in '07 when Horry decked Nash (was that the same year Nash got cut in G1 and they couldn't stop the bleeding?) and when Joe Johnson broke his face.

    Peak Stoudamire, Nash and Marion.

Good point. It seems like everybody thinks that they didn't win a title because they couldn't (i.e. there was something wrong with them). The idea that they along with several other teams were fully capable but only one team can win each year is so much more boring for fans and talking heads to consider.

I wonder what their defensive stats look like when the data is controlled for the pace of the game.

I think it is easier to accept now that any number of teams could win it compared to back then. (2006 aka the Stone Age.)

They were very unconventional for their time.

I think they were a top 10 team when it was adjusted for pace for at least a few of the D'Antonio years.

    Dude.
There's only a handful of these guys in the NBA.

You make it sound like the Pistons have a "Kevin Durant tree" growing behind the practice facility and they can go pick a couple fresh ballers whenever they want.

Dude, did you watch any of the playoff games against the Cavs? Having a player like KCP on your squad is how you get past a team like Cleveland. Getting rid of KCP makes the team a whole lot worse and we are headed back to the lottery. Is that what you want?
