Might have already been stated, but he signed that contract HERE! With the intention of retiring HERE and with hindsight being 20/20 his butt should have still been HERE!
Unless Kupchak has something up his sleeve, this is the year where Clips end up being the top dog in the Staples center.
In reality, Chauncey could have done a lot worse than the Clippers. With Billups, I'd probably put them 11th or 12th in the 'power rankings' behind Heat, Mavs, Thunder, Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Spurs, Knicks, Magic, Blazers, Hawks and Grizzlies. So even if Billups was left unclaimed and had his choice, how many of those teams could he have realistically gone to and still been a starter? Probably Lakers, Heat and Magic. Yep, could have done a lot worse. Clippers may not challenge this year, but next year could be different. Even after they over-pay Jordan, they'll still have a ton of cap space and the Wolves unprotected 1st-rounder.
Or perhaps Chauncey embraces a new role as the starting SG? https://twitter.com/#!/ESPNSteinLine/status/147103516077457408
Yea but the find print said - you can be traded at any time. Maybe he should have bargained for a no trade clause.
Clippers could also do Chauncey a massive favour and waive him. It cost them peanuts (in NBA terms), and they may have only signed him as a contingency plan if they couldn't land Paul. Now they have Paul they may not require his services. CB would then be free to sign where he wants. Clippers can't trade him til July. I doubt CB's ego would let him play strictly as an off-guard, nor a backup PG for that matter.
Maybe Billups camped out at the 3 point line with some PG duties is a great way for him to stay fresh in his old age. If I were him, I'd be intrigued at the possibilities. The Clippers will get a lot of attention this year. Chauncey already got his ring and he was the M V P. No need to be chasing a ship on some jerk's coattails. Think of how difficult it would be to keep the Clippers from scoring if you're worried about CP3 penetrating and either throwing a 13' high alley oop or kicking to Mr. Big Shot. Also, Chauncey is an extremely effective driver himself as he draws fouls like crazy.
Well, the word was that he wasn't happy...so, I'm curious what they said to him to convince him to play. Did they know ahead of time that they were going to get Paul and maybe Billups thought that, along with Griffin, would make them pretty competitive? Well, either way, he knows if he gets through a short season where he can at least compete...he's completely free to go where he wants next season and this season will pretty much be the best workout regimen he could have in preparation for next year.
I would guess he can't be too unhappy with how it ended up, but as you said he's only obligated for one year. Since the amnesty rules were just worked out and agreed to there isn't much room to complain anyway. Did anyone read Whitlock's take on the CBA? http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/...ers-shows-nba-still-has-major-problems-121511
He could sign for $1M just to piss off NYK. I'm surprised Nuggs moved him without intent to bring him back. that is his home. How inconvenient. !
With that low of a pay rate..........he'll have to stay at the MOTEL 6. Hopefully his play is "lights out"...
Billups made the "little brother" reference.......... He now has new enemies here at the PF................
