Roscoe, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we do something similar to this back in 2010 or something?

I tried 7 games. Here are the game winners and the players of the game.

    Game 1: Pistons - Rodman
    Game 2: Pistons - Rodman
    Game 3: Celtics - McHale
    Game 4: Celtics - Parrish
    Game 5: Pistons - Rodman
    Game 6: Celtics - McHale
    Game 7: Celtics - McHale

That seems like the ticket. I'm in for that. It would be more entertaining actually watching the simulation, but probably not possible due to the limited historic players.

Rodman's 31 rebounds looked very realistic as did the 72 to 35 rebounding edge! But who can argue? The computer spoke.

Event though it's pretty cool, how reliable is this simulation? I ran 10-15 games between 92 Bulls and 2012 Hawks and the Hawks smoked the Bulls 75% of the time. Doesn't seem to make sense.

But, it'll serve the purpose. We should have a designated simulator in chief though.

First of all, that's why we should have got Josh Smith. If he can take down Jordan 75% of the time, think what he'll do against Lebron!

I wonder how the simulator treats different eras. For example, averaging 20 points per game in 2004 was much more difficult than in 1975.

Worm averaged 18.7 rebounds per game in '92. When you draft with the simulator, you pick which season you want for each player you draft.

That simulator does what we want it to do. Let's just use it unless someone here builds a more reliable one.

One other thing to consider. Since we may only have a limited field of 8 people or so, we don't even necessarily need a draft. Everyone could come up with what they think is the best possible team and we can duke it out on the sim, even if both teams in a matchup have overlapping players.

    We could run different tournaments:
    - best of all time
    - best of Pistons
    - best of Pistons' bench players
    - an all Austin Daye team vs an all Charlie V team

We could play suicide matchup where the goal is to lose the game.

Imbalanced rosters, old time players, guys at the twilight of their careers, etc. That might be a more difficult game to win/ lose because the worst seasons in NBA history are tougher to find.

I have dibs on 2009 Lindsey Hunter.

I think a draft would be more fun. We could do it over a couple of days by making your picks in a thread.

**If someone doesn't make their pick (in 24 hours) - I'm picking for them. And it's going to be someone from the current Pistons squad. I will go BPA though.

Should I make the cut-off 8 teams? If not we might need 16. I'd like to do the match-ups tournament style.

My suggestion is that you give me a bye through the first round if you have too many people sign up.

I think 8 is about as many as you're going to get. Let's do it.

    alright, let's do it..

MOST IMPORTANT POST OF THE THREAD - INSTRUCTIONS:

Here's how we're going to do this.
    -There are going to be 8 teams - 1) blueadams, 2) Laimbrane, 3) coyneJeremy, 4) BillLaimbeer, 5)hitafreethrow, 6)Walter, 7)S.J., 8) Tas.
-There are going to be 5 rounds of draft selections.
-I am going to randomly determine the draft-order off-line (just going to have to trust me on this one).
-It's going to be a snake draft; the 1st pick of the 1st round will be the last pick of the 2nd round, and so on.
-Each team will have 24-hours to make their selection. The countdown begins as soon as the previous selection is made. If someone misses their pick, I will make the best pick possible for them ~ *from the current Detroit Pistons team (punishment).
-There is going to be an 8-team tournament once the rosters are finalized. The 1st pick will be the 1-seed, the last pick will be the 8-seed.
-The match-ups will be one-week long each. The winners will be determined by a vote of the six un-involved participating members over that week (*team owners are encouraged to plead their case). In the event of a tie, a non-participating board member (who we all trust, suggestions?) will decide the winner.
-The winner of the tournament shall be referred to on the board as "King(insert name)" by the seven losers until the 2014 NBA Draft. For example, "King blueadams".

That's about all for now. I'll randomize the selections soon. Select a date for the 1st pick. Set up a thread that we can all "copy and paste and add to" as the draft goes along.

    Good Deal!

...Do we all like this? I know I'm sort of taking a dictator-ial role here...but someone's got to if this is going to happen.

I'm really not interested in participating if this is going to be decided by voting, lobbying, etc. I see that becoming divisive and unpleasant.
This is over the top. We don't even do something like this for fantasy sports, which is actually something of an accomplishment to win. I'm not in favor of public shaming as a punishment unless it is Darth Tater.
