I took some old-timers in West, Russell and Gervin. But I think those are three who all had the size and athleticism to play their positions in the modern league.

It'll be a never ending debate with no real way to resolve. I'm OK with that.

In this Easter holidays I'll try to sim a few games with the NBA 2k13.. i'm not sure if I could found all the players, but I'll give it a try.

I'll have to find time though.. if i'm not going a few days away with some friends, I'll definetly do this!

When running the simulator, do you have to put 12 players on the roster to create a new team?

I was wondering about that.. I hadn't been able to figure out how to do it otherwise.. Might need to expand this thing

*Idea: We could all just have Monroe, Maxiel, Singler, Knight, Calderon, Stuckey on our bench? (Drummond wouldn't be available)

When you set your lineup, you can designate minutes to play each guy. This allows you to put scrubs on your bench and assign them 0 minutes.

That works. I wonder what sort of fatigue algorithm the sim has. The scrubs could be important in the case of a foul out situation.

I'm OK with a rule that requires all scrubs to be Sammy Mejia, Will Blalock

They still all get minutes though. All 12. Sometimes significant minutes.

We could enter each guy twice, picking their best and 2nd best seasons.

Perhaps I should've done this BEFORE the draft. But I've done it now. And it's interesting.

I started to run some simulations. Testing one player against another. I started with the Center position.

I took the top ranked center of all-time according to SLAM Magazine's all-time ranking (the best there is, IMO) - Wilt Chamberlain. I found his best PER season. I put him at C on the 2011-2012 Miami Heat. I gave him all 48 minutes there. I removed all backups there. Then I did the same thing with every other Center listed in SLAM Magazine's top 50 players of all-time list. Keeping all exterior variables the same. I did 50 simulations for each match-up (25 home, 25 away). Here's how the all-time Centers fared against Wilt:

    …..C, K. Abdul-Jabbar(71-72)…..*27-25
    C, W. Chamberlain(62-63)
    …..C, S. O’Neal(99-00)…..*25-27
    …..C, D. Robinson(93-94)…..24-26
    …..C, H. Olajuwon(92-93)…..23-27
    …..C (C/PF), N. Thurmond(67-68)…..19-31
    …..C (C/PF), M. Malone(81-82)…..18-32
    …..C (C/PF), W. Reed(68-69)…..18-32
    …..C, W. Unseld(68-69)…..17-33
    …..C (C/PF), B. McAdoo(74-75)…..14-36
    …..C, B. Russell(57-58)…..13-37
    …..C (C/PF), P. Ewing(89-90)…..13-37
    …..C (C/PF), D. Cowens(74-75)…..13-37
    …..C, G. Mikan(53-54)…..10-40

    There were basically three groups.

The top group - Kareem, Wilt, Shaq, Robinson and Hakeem. Kareem actually beat Wilt in a two-game overtime. Shaq lost to Wilt in a two-game overtime. Robinson lost by just a game. Hakeem by two. There's so much randomness in all these simulations, I'd just say that all 5 are about on par.

The middle group - Thurmond, Moses, Reed and Unseld.

The third group - McAdoo, Russell, Ewing, Cowens...and then Mikan. Very surprised to see how poorly Russell did. Ewing too.

What about Bob Pettit? Take 1960-61, for example. He averaged 27.9 points and 20.3 rebounds per game. Or, in 1961-62, he averaged 31.1 points and 18.7 rebounds per game. He is #14 on your SLAM NBA all-time player list.

rrr...just for the heck of it, I simulated the current best C, 2011-2012 D. Howard. He beat Wilt, 26-24. Making Dwight the best center of all-time according to this simulator. Lame.

He was a PF in his best PER season, so that's where I'm going to run him first.

I could see DHo at his peak being better than Wilt.

It was last season's Dwight. Not even the best Dwight.

Using Will Blalock as idle bench fodder would not be fair.
Just his presence, by shear osmosis would skew 3-point shooting numbers by a minimum of 10 percentage points. This would certainly destroy the integrity of this experiment.
