I never had those two ahead of Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Jamal Mashburn, etc., etc., etc.
I don't think we should forget that he was a first round pick. But we should remember that being a first round pick doesn't guarantee anything. There was a 1st round pick who is now playing in the NBL, a lot have been busts. Some are holed up in the D-league, others in prison. All it says is that this guy has the skill and the potential to make it in the NBA. Some teams picks players in the first round because they see some good value for a player on the bench. Some see stars. Daye has the skills and the potential to make it in the NBA. Maybe not as the next Wade, but certainly as a hot hand off the bench for 20mpg. Daye has been playing pretty damn well. Absurdly well, if we measure him up against what we expect. But maybe our expectations were too high to begin with? I don't think this is a particularly fair comment. Yes, it is a small sample size, but it isn't that small! As for CV, another member here pointed out that he is simply playing his career averages, nothing more, nothing less. It isn't a spectacular performance, it just appears that way - appearances can be deceiving. As for player comparisons, why wouldn't we compare him to other players on the team?
Ya know Bill..........If we ever met.....it would take about an hour to get the jokes out of the way before we found out about each other.
I could spend the first half hour just making fun of your football picks.....Bengals....Vikings...Colts....you are perfect so far this week!
Actually, I was gone this weekend. Just got back in town. I figured that would allow me to make some outrageous picks... and not have to hear about it for awhile.
My sample size goes beyond this season. I try and evaluate the whole body of work rather than just the recent body of work. Am I encouraged by the recent string of good play? Heck yeah! Am I confident that Daye won't regress back to a place where he curls up in the fetal position when someone makes a loud noise? ...not yet man. I'm not interested in CVs career averages. As a Piston, he's been pretty worthless. I view him as Detroit's version of Antoine Walker. If BoT could consistently play the like Milwaukee Buck version of himself, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Charlie is a one-trick pony with some decent Euroleague talent. FACT: when the day finally comes when Charlie is NOT on the Pistons; people will flood this board with positive feedback. & why wouldn't I bother to compare him to other members on the team? ...because he doesn't matter in the least. Hooper is more essential to the Pistons hopes of winning their next championship than BoT is.
Walker is a decent comparison. Good in his prime years, but flawed. Horrible in the wrong situation. Walker: .325 career 3 point shooter 17.9 pts/36 7.9 reb/36 0.5 blk/36 All-star Charlie: .350 career 3 point shooter 18.1 pts 5.4 rebs 0.6 blk
LOL!!! (3X All Star actually) Just what situation would constitute the "right" situation for Charlie?
He could legitimately play a role at one time. He had one of the most bi-polar careers of any pro baller ever. If he played 10 seasons, 4 of 'em were REALLY good and the other 6 were turd-like. ...He wouldn't make the Dominican squad these days, that's for sure.
Ok, I'm convinced. I don't care what CV did last year. I don't care that he missed 1/2 a season with an ankle injury that happened while he was sleeping. I don't care that the next time he makes a defensive play will be the first time he makes a defensive play. I don't care that he's a clown that cares more about his Twitter flock than rings. I don't care that he freaking stole over $22 million bucks from my favorite team. He's put up some above average per-36 stats over the last 10 games so Joe needs to lock that Turd up with an extension before some other team steals him from us. The NBA Amnesty Clause instituted during the last collective bargaining agreement should be known as the "Charlie Villanueva Rule".
