I think Leyland has taken this team as far as he can. It is true that he is not playing, but I don't feel he has the intangibles to get his team playing its best baseball at the right time. He's not a winner. You can argue that his Marlins teams won a Series, but there are so many instances where his teams have underachieved when it counted most. Leyland's Pirates teams underachieved in the playoffs, too. So have these Tigers. This team doesn't need any more "players' managers." They need someone to make them feel uncomfortable once in a while. They need someone who yells at Ajax for getting picked off first base in potential clincher and also gets in Fielder's face for not running home. Gibson would have no problem doing this. Not sure of his availability. I think Leyland should retire and Dombrowski should take the commish job if offered. All this said, I can see that it would be tough for Ilitch to fire Leyland. I just hope Patches goes on his own. If he doesn't, a few hints should be dropped.

Just move his desk and locker next to the entrance of Ford Field...
Place a picture of Wayne Fontes on the desk...

With our lineup and pitching staff, it will be a highly desirable job for the next manager. We could probably even get Phil Jackson.

    What P. J. ?
I don't know Zoo, he had to know that bully wasn't worthy. I think Skoo musta threatend him about a line up shakeup or we'd have been blown out in 5.
I wouldn't mind if he retires.

I'm not going to be pissed if he comes back. He's a good manager and there aren't that many of them. Let's just say I'm pretty luke warm on Mr. Leyland. Not his fault that the 'pen wasn't good enough. You play the players ya got.

I was reading the DetNews critic of the Tigers ousting and they gave Leyland a "C"
That's not good enough. Though most think the Sox were better. Chances like this don't come often. You can't wet the bed.
Remember Boston had to dump a coach last year and went from last to the World Series !
    At our expense !

Ozzie Guillen would be an interesting choice, wouldn't he? Won a Series in Chicago. I didn't realize there was bad blood between Gibson and DD
