Our 4th pitcher is just better than Boston's 4th pitcher.

The 2 mistakes by Pedroia turned out to be big.

The highlight of the game for me was the inning where Iglesias made the great catch in shallow LF and almost turned the DP. Then Miggy bare hands a slow grounder and uses his cannon arm to beat the runner by a hair. Hopefully this is a sign that he's getting better physically.

Boston now has to beat us in 2 out of 3 with Sanchez/Scherzer/Verlander coming at them. We have the starting pitching advantage, they have the bullpen advantage, the hitting seems to be slightly in our favor, but they have home field advantage back. It's a real series.

Those were the same highlights for me. I would add Benoit getting it done at the end. That was nerve-wrecking, great baseball.

I think it had more to do with Jake Peavy sucking than the Tigers' batting order.

    That Miggy bare-hander was DOPE.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this but in the 2nd inning when the flood gates were open for the Tigers, the 2nd out came on a force at 2nd base that wasn't even remotely CLOSE to being an out.
During that rally, the Tigers could have tacked-on an additional 2-run cushion so Benoit could "do his thing" later in the 9th.

Agreed, horrible non-call. I think umpires give the benefit of the doubt too much on that call.

It's called the "neighborhood" play. If the ball beats the runner, the umpire allows the infielder to "sneak out" a tad early to avoid injury. Not sure if it makes sense, but it is somewhat of an unwritten rule.

IMO: It's an unwritten rule for a reason. ...The reason is - it's a STUPID rule.

I think there were two incorrect calls that were offsetting with Iglesias. On the bunt, it looked like he beat the throw. On the second double play attempt, the throw definitely beat him.

Lots of close plays throughout the game.

Think about Iglesias's night. He nearly beat out both double plays, a bunt, and a shallow liner to right field where there was a play at first. It's nice having speed... but unfortunately, it is usually mixed with a lack of power.

I love Iglesias. I hope he figures it out the plate. He does stuff in the field that nobody even thinks about doing. When he caught that ball in short left and then nonchalantly executed a sweeping throw to second, he almost caught Ellsbury napping.

He made mistakes, the stubborness to adapt to even changing the lineup didn't occur to the 4th game. Too much reliance on pitching count and then playing the pitching merry go round cost two games. Failure of his coaches to motivate or fully investigate the poor hitting performance in September and October would have me fire a couple of them. Why can't these guys run the base paths with some smartness? Another issue with the field coaches.

Don't fire Leyman, fire those coaches and ask JL to possibly consider retiring.

Need to see some quality replacement names before considering his retirement.
