The object of the game is the win by scoring enough points and playing defense. In all six of the victories since the 10 game slide, the Pistons have scored a minimum of 105 points and held all but one of their to less than 100 points. The two Piston losses they scored 1o2 and 83 points.... (Heat and Sixers)

    3/17 Pistons 105- Grizzlies 95
    3/21 Pistons 107-Bulls 91
    3/22 Piston 105-Celtic 97
    3/24 Pistons 108-Raptors 104
    3/27 Pistons 111-Magic 97
    3/31 Pistons 105-Hawks 95

First place gets the 8-seed AND the most lottery balls.

What happens to the six and seven seeds?

Do they tank to get into the end of the season tournament because the 8th seed and a top draft pick is better than the 7th seed and a middle of the first round draft pick?

I like the current system, but think the probability curve should be way flatter. Give the worse team the best odds, but not so drastic. Include playoff teams in the lottery.

Stan has built a solid bench crew and it showed last night. Lucas, Tolliver, Prince and Anthony....that's a nice group to have on your bench. I trust his judgment on picking up talent. He missed (somewhat) on Butler and Meeks but overall a good job creating a bench.

    1) 3-day play-in tourney (PIT, make your own jokes) is randomly seeded, having bottom 8 teams in each conference.
    2) Games start with the winningest team being given points based on their wins in the last 20 games of the regular season (my instinct would be half of the difference in win totals) to encourage season-long team and player development.
    3) Winning team gets the 8th slot.
    4) Each team not in the playoffs automatically receives 1 ping pong ball.
    5) Each PIT win gives the victor one more ping pong ball - 30 total.
    6) Balls are drawn from a grab bag - not that stupid and overly complicated system they have now.
    6) Top 5 slots in draft from lottery, followed by rest of teams in reverse order of wins. (Worst team remaining gets the 6th overall.)
    Odds:
PIT winner in each conference : 4/30
    PIT runner ups : 3/30
    4 semis: 2/30 each
    8 initial-round losers: 1/30

So to answer your question, either the six and seven seeds take their shots in the playoffs, or they tank and try to run the back-to-back-to-back gauntlet, without losing, in the hopes of ending up with about a 50% chance of picking in the top 5 and a 13% chance at the number 1 overall. I don't think anyone in their right mind would tank under those circumstances.

    I like the creativity, @Laimbrane@Laimbrane , but.....

These 14 crappy teams shouldn't be allowed to play anymore games. After game #82, the misery of the players, coaches, and fans should be over.

Does that include this year's Pistons team?

And yes, for teams like NY and Philly, the season would likely be over after one game. But tthose teams are as bad as they are because being lousy is a reasonable optiong. In the other system, the ideal strategy would revolve around getting competent veterans first and then adding high-powered pieces.

I'm sure most PIstons players, coaches, and fans are ready for the season to be over.
