Come on Pistons - sort out the P&R defence, watch them try it every time down the floor and then bully them inside on the opposite end.

Said a lot already, but I think this is a MUST WIN GAME. Players need the confidence boost or else it's going to be a long slide into the new year.

    In the coulda/woulda/shoulda department...
Joe inking Jeff Teague instead of Brandon Jennings to essentially the same contract might have worked out well for the Pistons.

If they spent yesterday studying the tapes, and worked on some defensive sets, they should be able to get the victory. Pope needs to think set up inside the 3 point line as soon as he misses his first two 3 point attempts.

Unfortunately, 3-point shooters don't think that way. They figure that the next one is going to go in no matter how many in a row they missed.

Prediction. Coach will not coach. We will lose. We will see Singler give up a massive amount of points to the other team, and the coach just won't care, because he has decided that Singler is an NBA player, despite tons of data to the contrary. We will compete just fine in all, but in the end, we will lose, because Atlanta will get way too many easy buckets as team tries in vain to compensate for Singler being out there.

    NO WAY!

This is gonna be a blowout win! All three bigs will have double doubles with Smith falling 2 assists shy of a triple-double.

When the Pistons went ahead 87-86 with a 3 and change left the crowd was into it, Mrs Dre was into it and my Clipper employed son was into it....But a throw away pass by Kyle Singler that turned into 3 point play, the momentum switched back to the Hawks and the Pistons only scored 2 points afterwards. Even a steal by Jennings turned into a 4 point play....for the Hawks as Jeff Teague blocked the weak layup attempt by Jennings and they outhustled the Pistons the rest of the game.

Not sure why Josh didn't start, but 0 pts and 7 boards in 19 minutes???

Singler led the team in almost 42 mins played and 22 pts, but 3 brds and 1 assist?

Pope and Jennings..8 of 30 and 1-9 from beyond the arc.....those two just can't shoot?

Dre double-double again that doesn't result in a win.......

When do we play play a team that we can dominate?

Man, career game from Singler as he held his man in check. Everybody did their thing except Smith. With an average game from him, this would have been an easy W. Or, of course, if Will Bynum was suited up...

Not sure why Cheeks broke up the big three, but if it was a strategy change, it was an embarrassing game to do it with Smith against his former and hometown team. If it is discipline, then look out.

    I want to know too.

It's like the "fame" about our defense and lack of shooting is traveling real quickly. And the coaches from other teams know it and the players know it. Suddenly all the players feel more confident against us, don't respect that much our "shooters".
They attack the rim with no fear. They score. It's easy for them.
They have no respect for us.... And why should they? ...

It really wasn't that close. The Pistons were outplayed most of the game. This looks like the Curry-Kuester years.

First, there is no one on the team that you can count on to hit a shot over 15 feet. Not going to pick on any one player. Make your own choice.

The only player who has played consistently at the NBA level is Drummond. He is becoming the franchise game by game. But where is the help?? You may as well throw it in to Andre and make him the focal point of the offense.

If this is what Jennings can bring then Joe better look into the Rondo trade not that that would solve the shooting problems. But the Pistons have little movement on offense and very limited guard play. The Pistons have no one who can drive the lane and either finish or dish and the Piston bigs need that. Rondo can do that.

The defense is helpless at times. When the team clangs jumpers, messes up fast breaks, etc., there is little defensive scheme to hold the other team in check for a while. Atlanta is not an offensive powerhouse.

4-8. The organization can't wait too long if this is real. And with the guard play and shooting, there is a negative trend there. Trades will have to be made. This is not suppose to be a lottery year.

OK, so Smith misses practice, but has an innocent reason (usually no practice on back to back games, and he planned on not being on the team flight, Cheeks called an audible and set up a practice, Smith couldn't get back in time.... yadda yadda yadda).

    But...

Joe Dumars was just asked about Josh Smith being benched for missing practice and his response was, "It's deeper than that." - Dave Pemberton

So, how does this shake out?

Coach did not coach. Coaching loss. Note, Singler was minus 10. Even though he scored well, and I was impressed with that, I also continually counted the points he gave up by simply having no ability to defend as part of a front line. In this game, I believe he did score more than he gave up, but it was not by much. Further, since Smith ended up with zero points, we really got no more points from switching who starts, just more time for Singler to play bad D.

No team speed up front when you put the likes of Harrellson in with Singler. Harrellson hit some shots, nice, but he was minus 6. But he is not the problem, The fact coach is letting Singler play is the problem. I suggest anyone who disagrees with me, record the games, and study our defensive plays. You tell me how many points Singler gave up.

Pope was single handidly getting us back in this one with a series of steals and knock - a - ways plus some made shots. So the coach pulled him. Pope was +4 in this one. His defense should have been in there for crunch time. Note, Pope again played out of position at small forward for a bit. Does not look pretty. Of course, someone had to play some backup small forward minutes with Singler starting, and Smith playing a lot at power forward. JJ played a couple of minutes there.

There is not, and never has been, anything wrong with our big 3 starting together. Coach is seeing things apparently, and at the same time remains blind to the fact Singler plays no defense.

Again, Siva played some, looked good on defense, brought the ball up well, but looked bad when trying to get the ball inside. Minus 1 is not bad though. Its not like his play hurt us, but there was an opportunity to put Stuckey at point, letting him have the ball in his hands, that we did not use.

    Drummond was extremely impressive.

Of note, Jennings just does not want to make a layup from the right, with his right hand. Tonight, he did drive right once or twice, but note even then, for no reason, he shoots with his left hand. Which is as anyone knows, not the way to lay the ball in from the right. And he missed. Darn good move that one, got past everyone. But missed using his left hand - the hand nearest the defender, rather than using his right hand which was free as can be. Odd. He needs to get in the gym and practice simple right handed layups at a minimum - and really needs to get the extended right handed layups going like his left handed ones.

I still hold that if Mitchell is not playing, considering the other choices we have, this coach is not putting any serious effort toward getting us wins. I say if the coach expects the best out of his players, he should give them his best.

Dear Mr. Monroe. No, you do not have to have an outside shot. Drive or pass the ball. Go back in history to our championship year of 2004. The fact Corliss gave up trying to shoot the outside shot was a huge factor in us winning it all that year. If you don't got it, go practice. You are losing games by struggling with a shot that is not there.

Jennings has got to put on the afterburners to keep people from getting all the way to the hoop on him. I still think he is being lazy, hoping to get a steal as his guy goes past. Get your mind off those steals so much, and stay in front of your guy.

A rotation we could have used for this game, and in my opinion, would have won with it:

Start Jennings, Pope, Smith, Monroe, Drummond

2nd unit: Stuckey, Singler, Mitchell, (always 2 of Smith, Monroe, Drummond)

Note, Singler would only play with the unit of Stuckey, Singler, Mitchell, Smith, Drummond. One slower guy with plenty of quickness surrounding him to keep him out of trouble. Plus as he would no longer be part of our front line, any rebounds or interior defense he did provide would be a plus. On offense, he would be going against shorter players and should be able to consistently do enough on offense to make it worth all that energy needed to cover his deficiencies on defense.

Note, Stuckey plays zero shooting guard in this rotation. Pope plays a ton. Jennings is never over played as Stuckey gets 16 to 20 minutes a game at point. And finally, Jennings would always have somebody who can act as a half way decent shooting guard along side him.
