I was just pointing out that you can run and play half-court. You don't have to be locked into one style. Sometimes it's as simple as pushing the ball up and getting into your sets faster if there's nothing on the break. We used to do that well.
He scores about 3 points per game and starts for a playoff team. In addition, the team plays their best defense by far when he's on the court. So, yeah, I guess I am.
i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. if you aren't...how can someone be considered a defensive specialist when they continually miss defensive assignments?
I'm not being sarcastic. In all seriousness- if he is missing defensive assignments, he can be making up for it in other ways. Examples would be that he is helping others, playing more effective defense when he doesn't miss his assignment, deterring penetration from the other team b/c they see that he is ready to help guard the paint, and other ways. We don't really know how many assignments he is missing. I do remember MC bringing it up once. Is it every possession, once per game, once per week? It's really not that easy for us to see. If 2 guys go the same way on a P&R, who screwed up? There are situations where you can't do what is in the plans and you have to improvise. When I watch him play defense, I see a guy who is not focused on his own man, but who is hyper-aware of a large area of the court. He's constantly clearing out of the paint to avoid 3 second calls and quickly getting back in the middle. We win 58% of the 1st quarters and 33% of the 4th quarters. Those happen to be the ones where Amir plays the most and the least. We're not having success when he's on the court b/c of his offense. And as Joe D pointed out, he's doing it against starters this year. If we could somehow maintain the defensive success that we have with 17 minutes of Amir for the entire game, we would have the best defense in the league by 4.3 points per game.
I can clearly remember at least 2 times when it worked this season. In his career, it is probably in the teens.
Why hate this young man ? Did he cost us some big games big time ? He is just a guy who wasn't taught too much and probably will not have the opportunity to learn and play with this franchise. I don't have to hate a player who Joe wants to play because Joe is the boss. I don't have to hate Joe if his his guys are not good enough because he could be elsewhere and be a billionaire if he get every job done perfectly. I love Amir now because he's in Pistons uniform and I'm happy he's a Pistons because nowadays we don't have too much kids hold their work ethic and demeanor like him as well as our young draftees. I'm thrill to watch our young draftees bounce up and down the court, on and off the game and neither conserve nor object for any a bit. This young Pistons can learn they are just short of being taugh. Hey, btw, I don't know whether we will have Amir's tracking thread if we trade him this year. Go Pistons.
