Detroit Pistons at Oklahoma City Thunder Friday March 11 8:00 pm Local TV: FS Detroit Plus Nat'l TV: Radio: WWJ 950 AM Chat is open!!!! http://www.pistonsforum.com/playoff-chat/
random ice breakers Too many Piston turnovers were the key to the Thunder win Darn Clippers blew a 20 point lead and loss to the Nets...with Deron Williams sitting at home with new baby. 8 of the nine home teams won their games tonight so favored teams Jazz, Celtics, Clipps, Blazers and underdog Pistons never had a chance. If the Warriors can come back in the late game and beat the Magic, it would be a 9 game home sweep tonight for the NBA By the way we can still be happy that both the Wolverines and Spartans advance in the Big10 Tourney and even the Red Wings finally get into the win column after a bad week with a 2-1 OT victory over the Oilers....yep Tigers won too! and finally the Georgia Bulldog coach should be fired for calling a time out with 0.8 seconds left and having the winning bucket waived off and they lose in OT.... Nite yall
The Nets are now tied with the Pistons with 43 losses. Detroit could easily slide into the #6 position.
Let's get a feel for what a #6 pick looks like: '10: DeMarcus Cousins (producing) '09: Johnny Flynn (started 8 out of 38 played this year for MN) '08: Danilo Gallinari (Recent part of trade for Melo. Solid player.) '07: Yi Jianlian (started 2 out of 44 games played this year) '06: Brandon Roy (bone on bone in his knees) '05: Martel Webster (started 1 game out of 30 played for MN this year) '04: Josh Childress (started 3 out of 37 games this yr. 4.9 ppg) '03: Chris Kaman (started 8 out of 20 games played this year) '02: Dajuan Wagner (started 28 games in 4 years, out of the league) '01: Shane Battier (still going strong.) I'm actually a little surprised at how average this group of players turned out for how high they were drafted. Lots of injuries. One definite bust, and a couple average bench players. I haven't looked at the names, but I'm guessing the 7th spot has fared better over the past decade, just on pure chance.
I only got one comment on the game. Someone did a poll I guess, where would we be with better coaching. This should be changed - what if we had a coach who did not coach to lose?
Ben Gordon did and played so little in the 1st half that by the time he came out to start the 2nd I had forgotten he was even on the team. I think you could easily make a case that of all the guys who played last night Gordon and CG were the 2 worst. I thought Stuckey played well again. Him holding on to the ball for the one extra count to look to pass has made a world of difference to him. The Pistons are going to have to work harder to try and shake his confidence and progress. (aka their youth development program) Rip's game is so much calmer when he doesn't shoot a lot of 3's. He has played exceptionally well lately. (Offensively at least.) I forgot Big Ben was on the team too.
You're right. Ekpe Udoh. 4 starts in 41 games played this year. 3.2 pts and 2.7 reb per game. The 6th spot is cursed.
Most are on very bad teams and are not starting. I'll grant that it's probably not really cursed, but the quality of the guys on the list makes it tough to justify tanking for. The #4 pick is probably where you get consistent quality. We do have a 22% chance of getting in the top 3 if I remember correctly... so it might very well happen. What if we were in the 6th spot and we had 2 late first round draft picks to use to trade up to the 3rd or 4th spot (from the potential Tay and McGrady trades that JD rejected)?
I like Kyrie Irving, but I'm not sure if he will enter the draft after sitting out the entire season. Pistons would need a lucky ping pong ball to get him. The Pistons do get Toronto's 2nd round pick (Delfino trade). That should end up being in the top 35.
