If he's not that important or not that good, why does DEN all of a sudden look like us ?
I can't listen when I'm working. I plan on calling now. They're great, to quote Tony the Tiger.
And I have to wait two weeks for this? What showmanship.
Good point..this was Chancey's team and now Denver is Chauncey's team Right now with no real indentity, we don't knowif this is Rip's, Sheeds, or Tays team...or eevn Curry's team... Some in the media think it is AI's team
This was on another board; no link so grain of salt, but hey if true look at the positive. 1/Our team is bonding! Although, they probably didn't invite AI or told him they doing something else and had him waiting in the wrong place LOL 2/We do not suck that bad! We were just sleepy. And on the negative 1/AI was there and is turning our team into late night party/alcoholics 2/You'd think after the PHI, they would be in bed by 9
Personally, I'm starting to think all these guys that keep pointing at how much better the players surrounding Iverson are versus those in the past need to come to the realization that these players aren't as good as they thought they were. Make Iverson the main man, play him his forty-whatever minutes a game, (bringing Rip off the bench perhaps?) and treat the rest of these guys like the second fiddles they really are.
Or is it that AI isn't as good as Joe thought he was and the DEN players are alot better then people thought ? Maybe AI has already has better players, and he just can't get it done.
I bet TGRH drunk dials Chauncey after he goes out.
I haven’t weighed on in this game yet because I needed a day or so to let the sad passions that arose during chat percolate through. I’m really pissed off, a little with the pistons, but mostly with the fans. Not much to say about that first half. Except that there’s a lot to say, at least to those with selective memories who seem to think that this sort of “I’m not really up for trying today so let me just bend over while you …” performance is somehow the exclusive property of the post-Chauncey Pistons. Puh-leeze. The Pistons have been pulling this, especially against <.500 teams at least since I’ve been a member of the forum (November 2005) and I’d even be willing to bet that if we pulled game threads of our performances against teams in that category going back to that time, we’d have a 50/50 chance of seeing some very familiar voices complaining (justly) about the pistons inexplicable disinterest in getting it up for stomping over some weak team. Gosh, I even remember LB – the hallowed ikon of all that was once right but now is wrong with the club – sadly lamenting in a post-game presser early in the post-Ship season: “I never thought I’d have to coach effort”. If I remember right, Sheed, Tay, Rip, and even –gasp – Chauncey were part of that club. Poor larry, looked like a kid who’s dog had been run over. I know that someone’s gonna say that the point is that Larry did notice that and say it and that after all, the team righted the ship and made it to game 7. Well, save your breath, Curry’s complains about lack of effort too. Sure, you say, but Larry would bench these punks for not trying. Um. No he wouldn’t (if only because then he’d have to play Darko). But, you say, they made it to game 7!!! Oh, cool. And what was their won-loss record after 18 games: um, let me check. Oh, weird, it was 10-8 (and that was after an OT win against the mightly Toronto Raptors; and that win capped a 3 game win streak). Oh, and what happened the next game: the Hawks beat us by 16. And, about that fabulous second straight finals: are we absolutely certain that we'd have gotten out of ECF if WAde hadn't hurt his back? But I’m sure that everybody on the forum at that time was saying, it’s all good, let’s just wait ‘til Saint Larry rights the ship and we sail into the promised land for the second straight season. I’m not raggin’ on the good-old days. It was great to make it to the finals two years in a row and I think LB was a great coach (a disloyal flake, but a great coach) who got a lot out of these guys. I hope we make it to the finals again this year. I’m just saying the weak won-loss record and the lack of effort in the first half of Sundays game are NOTHING NEW. And it is absolutely simple-minded to offer single-factor diagnoses of the problems (it’s Curry, it’s small ball, it’s Kwame, it’s Amir on the bench, it’s rip and AI playing together). Maybe, with all these bright and keenly observant basketball minds in the forum, if we are coming up with so many problems maybe they all play a role? Or maybe it’s none of them. Or maybe, as happened in chat the other day, people can go back and forth arguing about what’s wrong with the team while something sort of interesting is happening on the court. But hell, why watch the team (especially when they start digging their sorry asses out of an immense hole with some hustling active d and some good ball movement on offense) when it’s sooooo much more fun to know what’s wrong and to argue with others who, magically, also know what’s wrong? Of course, you don’t agree so you can’t both be right – unless, whoa! It’s a multi-faceted problem!! Ya think? Maybe somebody else could take over for me here and just kind of lay out the complexity of the factors that might make for a consistently successful professional basketball team. Let me just conclude by saying, as I have before, I don’t know how this team is going to do and I don’t even know if the trade was a good thing or not. I know only that I enjoy the unpredictability of this year’s team. I don’t know that everything will be fine. If I say “let’s be patient” it’s more because I don’t for myself see the point to saying something else since I figure no one is going to listen to me about how to run the team, so I might as well be patient. So I don’t have a stake or even much of an opinion about “what’s wrong” with the pistons. I only know that it’s sad to me when people would rather debate that than watch a game and when what is passing for debate is more than anything simple assertion and counter-assertion, untroubled for the most part by evidence or logic. In other words, the Pistons aren’t the only ones who need to step up their games.
I don't know how true it is, but I have heard that AI has been a regular in the Detroit Casinos into the wee hours of the night.
2nd ugliest game of the season...hands down!!
Funny, I was just about to ask which beatdown by the Knicks was uglier - this one, or the Chauncey-led one last year. Thanks for summing up my thoughts perfectly.
Enjoyed the pod-casts. They are getting stronger. I look forward in having you state more questions. And following the resulting comments, still more questions.
Thanks...I know we have a couple of action tours coming up as a sort of impromptu bachelor part...so, I'm not sure where we'll end up. We are doing an ATV/Speedboat thing early on Friday and an open bar pirate cruise on Friday evening...so, it should be interesting. I'm not much for leaving the resort so we'll see what the gf manages to pull me out of my room to attend.
Thank you man....that means a ton to me. Really. I appreciate all you guys who listen, participate, and help me make this thing not suck.
Thank you sir...it's probably the only think I could pass to any decendents that would be worth anything...lol
A friend of mine in Texas told me the same thing....maybe he was in Atlantic City Saturday night and got back to the hotel right before the team bus took off to the Gahden
