learning is step by step process. If do not learn A then there is no B, etc. And coaches see it from practices. for every "see rookie playes there and shines" I can point out 10 who in spite of minutes still dont get it.
When checking the score of this game I was surprised when I saw the Pistons winning and comforted when I saw them blow it. Likely because it confirms my opinion of this team. I just hope they embrace their lotterality (c) this season and not make late runs that effect draft position.
I'm telling you all Greg Monroe is just like the turkey on Thanksgiving at around 10am, not ready, still pretty raw and if you put it on your plate it's not going to be very good.
A guy from Detroit called Fox Sports Radio last night and said something like, "What about the Pistons - the 3 time world champions - as they prepare for their home opener? They're trying to learn a new style of play, skinny and short ball."
The problem with this is (and what the YKW and 2012 camps refused to realize)...if you're going to lose anyway because 1) you're not very good and B) you core of big men is either injured or 6'4"...You have NOTHING to lose.
Low, we disagree on the hack-a-ben strategy, but I'm 100% with you on this one. Throw Monroe out on the court, irregardless of how ready the turkey may be.
8 point half time lead...7 point crunch time lead... Just wondering what would have been the outcry if the Pistons had actually held on and won or even won going away?? Criticisms yes, accolades yes/no?
honestly - it did not matter - my expectations are pretty low anyway. Sure, there will be some surprising wins vs contenders but mostly "a low level mediocre team"
Rax, congrats on your 2,000th post. Rascoe will be sending you a parting gift. It just occurred to me who you remind me of....
I would spraypaint the bird brown and put it on the table. Whoever finishes gets to have pie... Monroe plays at this point in Pistons history, even if he's completely raw.
Darth is so busy reading and taking notes on his Appreciation thread, he just doesn't have the time for anything else right now.
Even if we had pulled this one out I still would have been pissed off and complaining in this thread. The reason being that ....umm the only reason we were ever even remotely in this game was due to outrageous FG% from a few players and the ridiculous amount of clutch 3 point makes by Charlie Garbage. If it takes a miracle shooting night to even give us a chance against the worst team in the league then I believe that we ARE that worst team in the league. We have exactly ONE big man and he is 36 years old and one injury away from calling it quits. We are 3+ big men short of a full rotation in my opinion. P.S. - Aside from T-Mac NOT turning the ball over he was garbage in my eyes. He literally moves half as fast as the slowest player on the court and he doesn't have the hops to get up and rebound anymore.....let alone the piss poor shooting. His only positive was that he was big enough to stand next to the opposing team's bigs and not get shoved too far out of position.
That right there should qualify him for the starting PF spot. At least with TMAC, there is some potential upside. It is completely unknown whether or not he can gain the confidence and the conditioning to get back to a fraction of his old form, but that was more than priced into his contract. He's just a wild card. And if he does happen to get back to a decent level of play, we should pair him up with someone like Rip and trade them both to a contender for some future value. Think of TMAC as a penny stock.
