And how many of you questioned the naming of Joe Dumars being named the president of operations for the Pistons on 2001. After all he was just 2 years removed from playing. ..and I am not sure if he had any ball front office experience prior to that.... I guess the issue here is that Joe would stick around and train Chauncey?

I think the times they are a changing. Front offices are increasingly run by lawyers and statisticians. I don't doubt that Chauncey knows talent, but this feels like a throwback move. I'm a sentimental guy, and I like tradition, but I really love winning.

Chauncey would be too accommodating to players who want out.

Maybe Chauncey just needs to start wearing glasses?

How about the Pistons hire Chauncey as GM, Bill Laimbeer as Team President, Isaiah Thomas as head coach, have Sheed replace Mason as public address announcer (can you even imagine?), hire Ben Wallace to run the weight room, get Dennis Rodman to run the marketing department, put Dumars in charge of concessions, and put Bill Davidson's and Chuck Daly's coffins vertically into each of the front columns, frozen in carbonite. Then the team would never even HAVE to move forward.

I like how Dumars have become a running joke on Grantland. It's hard to find an article without the two phones-pic or a podcast where they are not laughing about the stupidity of Joe. They even had a March Madness live show on their youtube channel a few days ago where they concluded the reasons the East is continously worse than the West is Dolan and Dumars.

Not an article, but I started watching the ESPN 30/30 documentary - Requiem for the Big East. Pretty great reporting and a fascinating look at a time when everything was changing.

I'd take either Michigan coach. Izzo would be solid... especially since we have the youngest starting 5 in the league. College coach type control and teaching might work well. Dre is a sponge.

Gores is an MSU alumni, so this may not be too far fetched. It would be good to see Izzo get a chance at patrolling the sidelines of the NBA court, and our current young team might be a very good fit.
