I can't believe that in the year 2013, this is still a "story".

    Props to this dude!
Here's hoping that this is just another step in the growth and progression of the human race.

When I saw the headline, I was shocked! Like you, I couldn't believe it was a story, and I really couldn't believe that he's the first... but I guess he is.

I doubt any team would have resigned him (41 points in 38 games). Hopefully his lack of new contract doesn't get passed off as discrimination by GMs.

Someone will resign him now, especially in a really accepting state.

He actually isn't a terrible player for short stretches. Sure he has no offense, but he plays good defense and has good size to set picks.

As someone who saw signs during my youth that said "white only" or "no colored allowed",
this process of growth and progression is a slow battle. I've always wondered what the world will
    be like...with continued growth...in 200 years..........

Here's an interesting read........kinda sad that it took this long.

i just dont get that who someone has sex with is anybody's business!! THe media is yet again the devil's playground. I've know so many gay people over my 50 years of life that Collins' sex preference being a lead story is again proof of why I hate TV! Like Britney Griner saying she's gay. 'OOOooo Britney! Im SOOO SHOCKED!":cop:

I can't believe it was the lead story on every news cast from the late morning to the evening. Then everyone had to come out of the closet to praise his actions. I have no opinion on it other than why did he or anyone take so long to just come out and indicate what their preferences are and move on.?? This is the 21st century...yep there are conservative people out there who will always live up the moral standards instilled in the in their youth and then moderates like me who let people live their own lives without judging them.

The person who is praising Mr. Collins the most is Dwight Howard who may have had this whole day dedicate to his quitting the team yesterday, but instead his story temporarily died about noon today and will be continued later........of course if this had been Dwight Howard making that announcement it would trump every news story for the next 10 days.

Yeah, he kind of has a weak presence naturally. Comes off much better in his articles.

I don't mind seeing a non pro on TV though, especially when he has built credibility through his writings.

Agree, when I first heard Simmons speak, it was like "Garbo Talks" (a movie reference from the late 20's) .

I could not believe it was the same guy who writing the articles. His voice is so "what am I doing here talking to the these hoopsters". Took me awhile to believe that Jalen Rose would retain his gig, as it appeared like he came across so monotone and it initially appeared that he was reading everything..and was having a hard time doing it. Reminds me of when Magic first started talking with a suit on.

Gotta love Jalen & CWebb for still lovin the Pistons 20 years after left and considering that only Cwebb played for them and that was less than 40 games. Although Magic only lived 90 miles north and followed the Pistons in his youth, he will always bleed Laker sweat and seem to be more disappointed the 04 Pistons beat the Lakers than he was when the 89 Pistons beat them. (although I can still see him cursing himself when he pulled the hammy in game one of the 88-89 Finals...)

I think he was worse than normal in that interview because he tried to start off with a joke that was more snarky than funny. The news anchor didn't seem to have much of a sense of humor about it though.

It is true, though - he doesn't have a huge amount of on-air charisma.

I actually like Simmons on TV.

His views and opinions seem to come from "I'm a fan and I watch these games on TV and talk about what I see, just like you." instead of all the ex-player dudes who roll-out the "I used to play and I want to make sure that you know that I played. I also want you to know that me and these guys who play today talk, text and tweet to each other all of the time."

Simmons seems less afraid to offend anyone by saying something negative about a player or team.
    I like that.
