Admittedly I haven't watched a game with Rubio on the floor in a while but a cursory glance at the stats don't support this statement at all, unless by one of best defensive PG's in the league you mean one of the most middling defensive PGs with a high turnover rate and a crook shooting arm.

Ricky Rubio - among PG's in the league he is 20th in defensive win shares and 27th in DBPM. That's not that good.

In fact he is tied for 20th in DWS with Patty Mills, Goran Dragic and Kyrie Irving. Names we often hear in contention for the best defensive point guards in the league.

DBPM is probably the better measure though. And he is equal with such defensive forces as Spencer 'The Mayor" Dinwiddie, Jrue Holiday and Jerian "10mpg" Grant.

I dated a woman named Patty Mills...
She always let her guard down.

Rubio has been one of the best defensive PGs in the NBA since he arrived. Not every player has the ability to throw perfect dimes and knock down shots while on defense.
And Russell Westbrook is ahead of Kawhi Leonard while spending most of his time on D resting for his next offensive possession. Not bad at all.

Sticking with the two time reighing DPOY, he's behind studs like Spencer Hawes in DBPM. Defensive juggernaughts Ryan Kelly and Joel Bolomboy finally gets the credit they deserve by breaking into the DBPM NBA top 10.

I wonder if the current Pistons would be yelling at Rubio for not whipping passes at their feet like they're used to if they traded for him?

I just want to read the dang article. I don't have time to do player analysis right now.

You don't have to do analysis. Just pick a starter. Roll a die if you need to.

He has gotten a lot of steals since he arrived. Lets at least be honest about his contribution on defense. From what I recall watching, he isn't bad but nothing to the warm and fuzzies over.

Russell Westbrook has always been a two way player. You can't be serious if you think Rubio holds a candle to him.

Now you are just making bad sample size comparisons. Chinanu Onaku is currently the PER leader with ~31 but he only has ten minutes. No one is saying he is the next Michael Jordon.

I was comparing only point guards.

Secondly, DWS and DBPM are both pretty accurate indicators of good defense, especially combined.

The top 10 when sorting by both
    Rudy Gobert
    Draymond Green
    Andre Drummond
    Kevin Durant
    Deandre Jordan
    Anthony Davis
    Hassan Whiteside
    Russell Westbrook
    Giannis Antetokounmpo
    Paul Millsap

Yeah they all look like trash on defense. Kawhi is 13th by that measure and DHo is 12th. Not exactly out of the race.

Ricky Rubio is 133rd on that list. Lets stop pretending now.

I think that was the criteria they used when creating the web page.

I was thinking more of Ish Smith would do the bag packing for Drummond, as he has the most experience in this regard.
