Perhaps he will have a chip on his shoulder, too, if he gets cut from Team USA.

I think that the simple experience of having been in USA training camp cant be discounted.
I have to imagine that getting instruction from Coach K and his staff while battling his USA teamates everyday in practice is more valuable than being carted off to Europe to blow-out the Greek national team by 30 points.

This summer has been good for Drummond.
I expect great things from him this season.

I agree. Drummond gets to see what playing with great / good players is all about. This is a big big year for him to elevate his game to All-star levels if he wants to surpass the Deandre Jordan career arc. I am loving everything I hear from him and about him. Is it November yet?

I don't think Tom Thibodeau is going to help him. He will be playing hack-a-dre in a couple of months.

I can't wait to see what Drummond can do in the USA Team, when Cousins and Davis picked up a few fouls.

Drummond DNP in today's game vs. Turkey.

    Coach K only really using seven players: Curry(24), Kyrie(24), Rose(17), Thompson(25), Harden(25), Faried(28), and Davis(26).

Cousins(13) and Gay(9) played role player minutes. Derozan(5) and Plumee(4) played minimum minutes, while Drummond(0) didn't get any minutes.

Splash brothers (Curry and Thompson) shot very poorly for the day going 5/18 collectively.

Davis and Faried were the bright spots going 19 pts, 6 reb and 22 pts, 8 reb; respectively.

Yankees were losing 35-40 at half-time.

Finished the game 98-77, but it was not as dominant as the score may indicate.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier in the week, USA destroyed Finland, really getting lucky with its draw for Pool play.

Drummond did play, although fewer minutes than everyone the team at 10. He went 4/4 even making a free throw for 9 points and 4 rebounds and a steal.

Plumlee played 12 minutes, but didn't really do much. Cousins played 16 minutes and was a rebound machine at 10.

Davis was dominant in limited time and Thompson went 70% from the field knocking down 4 threes.

An interesting statistic: Rose was +45 for the day in 23 minutes.

Until he shoot the FT at 75%, he ain't going play any meaningful minutes. C'on big fella.

USA defeated New Zealand 98-71 earlier today.

    This game really wasn't close.

It became quite evident throughout how much Team USA depends on Anthony Davis.

Kenneth Faried is probably their second most important piece so far, as well.

Cousins and Plumlee got minimum minutes, although Cousins was the first guy off the bench (but Davis came back in a couple of minutes later).

Drummond only played four minutes and did not have an impact.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
Again, I would like to express my worries with Team USA. I think how dependent they have become on these two big guys and how little impact the other three big guys are making is worrisome.

Their biggest challenge to take the title would be Spain, who has Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, and Serge Ibaka, as well as, a couple of quality guards.

Team USA has played small ball most of the tournament so far, playing Harden at the SF and two of Curry, Irving, Rose, Thomspon at the guards.

Harden is not known for his superb defense, and neither is Faried. The other role players they have been using in the front court have been Cousins and Gay, both not great defenders.

I will say that Davis is an above average defender, and could probably neutralize one of the Gasols. But what about the other?

How will Davis (the USA's main offense) get his offensive game going against a superior shoot-blocker in Serge Ibaka, while exhausting a great effort on the other end attempting to stop the Gasols.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
I think the Yankees can out run and out shoot any team in the world with their amazing guard play. No team has any lock down perimeter defenders either, really.

I just think it's a mistake to not give Drummond more of an opportunity to showcase his game, as an efficient low-post scorer and solid defender. (At least, he's as good or better than all of the other options.)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
You heard it here first: Spain will upset the U S of A in this tournament.

Spain's window is closing like Argentina/Brasil who went just one step ahead that whose core players(starters) has been playing together for more than 10 years. They are much senior than Team USA. Most likely, Kyrie Irving & Co. will run the Spain team to death.

75% FT could be a tall order for Drummond but as far as I love his potential, would like to set the bar higher for him because 40% would just hack his confidence away in international tournament.

Shaq was at 52.7% for his career --> 15-time all-star and 4-time champion

Russell was at 56.1% for his career --> 12-time all-star and 11-time champion

FT% is not a justifiable reason for an individual to get playing time or not, or how much success he will have or not in his career.

Drummond is not playing for Coach K NOT because he is a poor free-throw shooter.

RATHER, Drummond is not playing for Coach K because he is raw. His offensive game is honed yet. He is not consistent defensively. He does not have a defined role for the team.

Sure, he may not play in late game situations due to his FT%, but that can't be the main reason he is averaging 4 minutes a game for Team USA.

You can shoot poorly at rhe line if you are Shaq or Russell. Andre Drummond has tons of potential, but he isn't even CLOSE to that level yet.

Plus, I believe he would still need to put in some work to get up to Shaq's FT%

Totally agree. Couldn't say it any more precise.
Had picked this FT% topic because it could be the easiest and nearest goal for him to get.
