So at worst we got the 4th pick if the draft were redone. Wasn't Monroe second or third in the voting his rookie year? Not bad, Dumars... :stirthepot:

    Actually, Monroe was 6th....

2013 - Andre Drummond: 4th (behind Lilliard, Davis, Beal)
2012 - Brandon Knight: 8th (behind Irving, Rubio, Faried, Leonard, Shumpert, Thomas)
2011 - Greg Monroe: 6th (behind Griffin, Wall, Cousins, Fields, Neal)

He'd get picked 2nd if the draft were redone.

Here is a flashback to the SN NBA draft analysis:
In hindsight, pay great attention to Jim Calhoun. Also, scratch "years before he can be effective" and insert "minutes before he can be effective".

Their take was that he plays like he has to? IMO, he exhibits the enthusiasm of a kid out there.

Drummond's college experience may have been necessary for him as an interim step, but it really didn't showcase him very well.

Jim Calhoun says he moves like a young Hakeem and now he's rumored to be heading to Houston to work with him. Can the Pistons hire this guy in some capacity? It would be nice to have somebody inside the organization who connected with and influenced the players.

It seems like he was deemed a risk because Thabeet didn't pan out.

I am holding my head right now. Because at 19 years old, I wanted to become everything. I wanted to touch everything. Everything had no scope of boundaries: the possibility of ever expansion. And then the great chain of being levels the circumstances of reality. Just one small quirk, and then another pathway taken. Multiple quirks or quarks, along the way. Still, at this extremely immature level of understanding, he should never reject our good will or better yet, never take it for granted: as a goodwill life worth hunting.

Glad Drummond has expressed interest in developing his game early in his career, unlike guys like Dwight and Amare who waited 8 seasons...

So far, Dre appears to be the polar opposite of the "Low Motor" dude who the 2012 draft pundits talked about.
    ...Good for us Pistons fans!

Maybe Joe D just saw "motor" when reading the scouting reports and he thought that would be a good fit for an automotive town franchise.

    Refined scouting report:

    - Will be top 3 NBA center within first month due to great motor, superior athleticism, and sure hands
    - Rebounds like Moses Malone
    - Blocks shots like Mutumbo without fouling
    - Steals the ball from opposing PGs and runs one man fast breaks at least once every two games
    - Passes the ball like a 38 year old Sabonis
    - Will make undersized bench PG look better than CP3
    - Will make no defense playing 3-point chuckers with bloated contracts tradable
    - Despite decent form, is totally incapable of making FTs.
    - Has weak back and needs a coach that will limit his minutes to under 20/g

Pistons get two players on all rookie second team. Dre leads the second team with 35 votes. Coaching decisions and injuries probably prevented him from making the first team. Singler also gets recognized.

Props to Singler. I don't know how common it is for a second rounder to make it into the top 10 rookies list, but it's good that he gets recognized.

Looking at the history, we had 5 rookies (Drummond, Singler, Knight, Monroe and JJ) in the top 10 for the past 4 years (Knight being the only 1st team selection). That bodes well for the future.

The new coach will have to turn those five players into a team of playoff contenders by the end of the 2015 season if not before.
