Best backup C in basketball!!!
I liken it to Calvin Johnson. Just throw it high in the vacinity and your passing rate is looking darn good.
Right, the garage door illustration was used on him in the sports science segment (basically that is the range that he covers with one step and a stretch out. Maybe Calvin would make a good Darvin Ham type bench player if he ever gets sick of making money. He might be a tough defender too.
Too bad I'm not an insider. Could be a good article NBA -- The case for Andre Drummond for rookie of the year - ESPN
Yep...and it wouldn't be right for anyone to post some of the good parts here.
Not sure what that article will tell us that we don't already know (PF.com intellectual property issues aside). We know Dre has amazing potential and upside. We see it every night they play.
The article talks about Drummond averaging 7.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks with 59 percent shooting, all in less than 20 minutes per game. It also talks about Drummond having a 21.9 player efficiency rating, the highest PER for any teenager in NBA history. If it keeps up, he'll have a better PER than Kyrie Irving, Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony when they were teenagers. It mentions Drummond's per-36 minute statistics of 13.0 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.5 steals with 59.7 percent shooting. Drummond is 5th in the NBA in dunks per minute, trailing only McGee, DeAndre Jordan, Tyson Chandler, and Griffin. It uses a system called SCHOENE to show who Drummond compares to the most. Answer: Dwight Howard. The author suggests Drummond should be playing more minutes, including being paired with Monroe.
Soooooo.....the author Ernie?
well, we all know these things already, albeit not in such detail. So, which one of us is going to tell the coach?
I would, but I cant afford another restraining order or I wont be able to leave my house
The author also suggested a lineup of Knight, Stuckey, Prince, Monroe, Drummond, which is PLUS 12 on the year over 52 minutes.
Don't know what Frank is waiting for give him 30 minutes of playing time.. just try it for 1 game or 2.. if the kid can't take it, well, go back to the 17-21 minutes that he is already playing..
Its hard to give him any minutes at all when Prince is guaranteed 130
If the all-star selection was done using WS/min: East: PG: Lowry/ G Hill SG: Wade/ Kidd SF: P. George/ Dunleavy PF: Lebron/ Melo C: Chandler/ Drummond West: PG: C Paul/ Parker SG: Kobe/ Ginobili SF: Durant/ Barnes PF: Splitter/ Griffin C: Duncan/ M Gasol The East is defensively leaning and the West leans offense. I'd tune in for it.
It's time to start running a play for Drummond other than a lob or drop off. Time to give the kid a touch or two on the block, let's see what he's got. 2 or 3 dump downs to him can't be any worse than the iso's we run for Stuckey.
An ESPN panelist voted Drum as an all-star. His explanation: Andre Drummond’s lack of playing time masks a deserving All-Star « PistonPowered
Nice article that sums up my view on the mins / or lack of mins (according the masses here) that Drummond has been playing. Dime Magazine (dimemag.com) : Daily NBA News, NBA Trades, NBA Rumors, Basketball Videos, Sneakers » Blog Archive The Monster Potential Of Andre Drummond & Why Detroit Won't Unleash It
I really liked the Dime article. That's how I feel as well.
I buy it too, as long as he averages 25 minutes from here on out.
I don't see how the Magic were negatively affected by throwing Howard on the court in his rookie year. He has started in 662 out of 663 appearances in his career. He posted 23 points in his one bench appearance in his sophomore year. Howard had less experience than Drummond. What is another example of a guy with a PER of 22 who rode the bench for so long before later breaking out to be a star? Are we inventing a new way to incubate hall of famers here? Earning minutes seems to not apply in our new system. If Drummond was putting up half the stats and passes were bouncing off his head, I'm pretty confident that he'd still be getting his 20 mpg. Stern should fine Lawrence Frank for tanking.
