If we keep working at it we might get this thread to a second page. What used to be a fun game between the best players has turned into a bloated tedious weekend with little of interest. What a waste of time.

Maybe the forum should follow the NBA's example and take a week off from posting.

My fantasy team is terrible and the two weeks of it the NBA has messed up is not helping.

I love the dunk contest and the 3 point shoot out. The all star game is just bad now.

It feels like everyone is just putting it on now.

How can all those guys have no desire to win, even if it's only an exhibition?

It's unwatchable to me. My 6 year old asked why all were doing was dunking. He was legitimately confused.

They should take a cue from the nhl and shake up the format. 3 on 3 elim tourney and play to 21 (make it take it). Split up the captains and draft the teams. If a team didn't try, they'll never get the ball or any showboating opps.

When I'm on my way to play some pickup hoops with the fellas, [sarcasm] I always bump Sting's, Dream of the Blue Turtles to get me pumped up. [sarcasm/]
What NBA marketing genius decided that halftime train wreck was a good idea?

    ***Sorry, I'm a bit biased.***
I was a HUGE Police fan when I was a kid and Sting's ego broke up what WAS an awesome band.
Sting is an amazing musician but everything he's done since he parted ways with Stuart Copeland and Andy Summers is crappy 'adult contemporary' feces that sounds best when experienced during an elevator ride.

Sting is the most boring musician in the entire world at this point. And I was a huge police fan as well.

The Canadian National Anthem chick would have been better.

I would have called up the members of A Tribe Called Quest and offered them enough money to make it worth a trip to Toronto.
(The members are back on speaking terms and will soon be releasing a series of 25th anniversary re-mixes.)

It's a younger hip hop crowd of celebrities, old legends, basketball families and groupies that have most of the good seats. The others with old money are just there to say that went.. The entertainment is usually geared to the young-uns at the arena and on TV

When we attended the Dallas All- Star game in 2010 it was Usher, Shakira and Alicia Keys who wowed the crowd.
2011 had Rhianna, Kanye and Lenny Kravitz,,,
2012, Pitbull, Neyo and Chris Brown.
    2013 Alicia Keys,
2014 Pharrell, Snoop Dogg, Janelle Monae and Earth Wind and Fire
2015 Ariana Grande & Nick Minaj

With this being the first time the game was being held in Canada, they could have gone with Drake, but he was too busy being the host and ambassador and probably would have been to worn out to sing a decent set. Nelly Furtado is Canadian, but she doesn't have a full discography of songs to keep a crowd like this in it..... Could have gone with hip-hop wanna be-Justin Bieber or even old school with Alanis Morresett, but going all the way back to Sting was indeed a strange choice considering the performers at the past six shows.

He was cool though for old guy like me....

Not worth starting another all-star thread since we don't have on the team, but here is where Dre is measuring out:

Comparison to last year (all star) to this year (not an all star): per 100 possessions
    Stat: Dre16/ Dre17
    Pts: 17.7/ 16.8
    TS%: .499/ .526
    Reb: 16.2/ 16.0
    Ast: 0.9/ 1.3
    Stl: 1.6/ 1.9
    Blk: 1.5/ 1.4
    Orat: 103/ 103
    Drat: 98/ 98
    BPM: -0.5/ +0.8
    PER: 21.2/ 20.7

He's basically having the same exact year, except that he's slightly more efficient on 2 point FGAs and FTAs. His pts dropped slightly due to about 1 less attempt per game. Assists are the only stat with a significant variance and it was positive... but still he doesn't assist much.

Comparison to DeAndre Jordan (current all star in the West):
    Stat: DJ17/ Dre17
    Pts: 19.5/ 16.8
    TS%: .663/ .526
    Reb: 21.8/ 16.0
    Ast: 1.7/ 1.3
    Stl: 0.9/ 1.9
    Blk: 2.8/ 1.4
    Orat: 127/ 103
    Drat: 101/ 98
    BPM: 3.0/ +0.8
    PER: 21.1/ 20.7

DeAndre is just better at this point in time. He doesn't play as many minutes, but he plays bigger and has about the same quickness as Dre. Better paint protector.

Yup. He was picked 35th. The Pistons - going on roughly 5 straight years of sellouts - picked DJ White 29th so they wouldn't have to pay a 1st round pick and then scooped up old frere Walter Sharpe at 32.

They bounced back from the disappointment of missing out on Jordan by trading for the 46th pick of the 2nd round, ex-European league legend Trent Plaisted.

Looking back on this I'm surprised the next few years don't go so well for the team.

Drummond was an All-Star last year. Who was his coach?
