5 dimensional chess. I like it!
Or something a couple of interns wrote but that would ruin the story.
It looked like a list of players that don't belong in the NBA.
I thought that initially....until I noticed Tolliver and Jerebko on the list.
You're thinking about the players constantly being played out of position by clueless coaches list.
I vote for this.
My offseason idea is maybe we trade Harris for Fournier, would should make sense for both teams, because KCP walks, and because Fournier is a better defender than Harris. Resign Bullock and a couple of cheap FAs, for about 10 mil total, which is still about half of what KCP would be asking for, draft Miles Bridges. (This is assuming a Tatum or Monk doesn't fall) Those of you who are disappointed that I haven't added big name FA catch in this rotation, well, the only way one of them comes to Detroit is if they are given close to 30 mil a season, which probably isn't attainable with the current roster's salary. If Ellenson progresses well enough to eventually challenge Leuer for that starting role, Reggie figures things out, and Bridges a strong rookie season, this squad could potentially get back to that playoff spot. PG Jackson, Smith, Gbinije SG Fournier, Johnson, Hilliard SF Morris, Bridges, Bullock PF Leuer, Ellenson, FA C Drummond, Boban, FA
I like Fournier, but no one should worry about losing KCP. SGs are a dime a dozen. I'd be ok with rolling with a 30 year old journeyan at SG. The hardest players to replace are quality stretch bigs and PGs. I don't like many of the guys we have, but I have come around on Harris. His defense is very bad, but he can really light it up on the other end, draw fouls going to the hoop, and shoot those FTs.
But if we keep Harris, we basically relegate him to the bench, and I don't want to see Ellenson buried on the depth chart again spending another season with the Drive.
Ideally if Harris is more valuable, let's have Orlando swap 1sts and nab one of those true PGs projected to go top 4 (Orlando already has one), dump Reggie for what we can, resign KCP. Orlando might do it if they were able to rid of an uneeded contract like Augistine, (whom SVG likes) PG Ish, draft pick, Augistine SG KCP, Fournier, Gbinije, Hilliard SF Johnson, Morris, Fournier, Hilliard PF Morris, Leuer, Ellenson, FA C Drummond, Boban, FA
If you dump RJ you're back in a rebuilding project with an unknown quantity at PG. The rook could be the next Chris Paul, or the next D'Angelo Russell but it will take a couple years to figure out which he is.
What's wrong with D'Angelo Russell?
Turn that inside out. What is right with D'Angelo Russell?
I'm just going to put this here. Knock yourself out. http://deadspin.com/tag/dangelo-russell
I like this. we keep a very good core while realizing the current build isn't working. It's taking a bit of a step back towards what can be a much brighter future
Ish a very solid backup PG, but he cannot lead a playoff-caliber NBA team.
How about averaging nearly 16/5 at 21 years old? Sure the guy is immature, but he's 21 YEARS OLD
Why? You guys and your obsessions with stats. Lots of guys who put up nice stats who aren't going to be in the playoffs. Russell, Drummond, Cousins, Davis come quickest to mind. The entire point of all of this, 82 regular season games is a build up to competing for a championship. If you're not making the playoffs, let alone winning playoff games, you're not getting it done, regardless of how fantastic your individual statistical performance may be. Drummond is not quite their yet, but another year or 2, people will start talking about how he has never won a playoff game. Same thing with Cousins. That's because competing in the playoffs is what it is about, not how great your odds are to get the #1 overall pick every year.
He has no outside shot. His defense is average. I love him as our backup PG. I just don't see Ish leading us to the promised land. World Champions need a stud at PG.
