Right, the reggie injury (or degenerative condition) derailed the business plan. I agree and liked the direction we were going last year.

I'd try to upgrade at PF and ideally shift MM to the bench and give it another go. Salary pressures are going to mount though and MM is a great trade sweetener due to his below market contract.

Thanks. I'm sure every nba team is aware of these dynamics. There is more calculating being done behind the scenes than there used to be.

Appreciate everyone's astute observations......here are some mine.

Dre has probably given up and all of his team mates know it so they barely feed him the ball thinking that they can do better from outside. (duh wrong) With no RJ in there, Dre is not even getting an alley-oop chance. Deep down he is upset that both he and his team mates have digressed. His enthusiasm has also taken a hit. His defense consists of putting his hands up, but never goes for the ball in a block attempt or uses his hands unless he is on the open floor trying to steal from a dribbler away from the hoop. Anyone shooting outside the three or under the basket it is just arms up, but no movement trying to actually swap at or knock the ball out of the opposing player hands. Needs to go to big man and FT camp before he returns to the Piston' roster next season.

The Pistons made a mistake either bringing back Reggie too soon or even bringing him back at all?? There are plenty of big salary guys sitting out the season mending. Regardless of Reggie playing or not, SVG could have brought back Beno after the all-star break even if even if it was 6-10 minutes a game. Now the guy is providing a spark and they are 2.5 games out of the final playoff spot with 5 games to go and have slipped from 7th to 11th spot in a matter of two weeks. Where was he 2.5 weeks ago when the slide started?

Yeah, beno looks solid. He's sort of in between ish and reggie play wise.

Pistons didn't get any favors schedule-wise lately. They played 4 games in 5 nights, as well as 6 games in the last 8 nights. Now they get 4 consecutive days off. That makes no sense at all.

For sure...like he doesn't pick up his dribble like Reggie does (after multiple between-the-leg exhibitions) and he is a better shooter (but never developed a floater) than Ish.
Beno leans forward and Ish leans back, while the latter's nasty ball twist works against a soft touch at the rim.

I've given my take on this.

Stakeholders include local businesses, radio, advertisers, sponsors, season ticket holders, Palace concession workers etc.

They have to try to win, even if they ultimately come up short.

We may not like them damaging their lottery position, but they have other people to answer to than just us.

I don't have a problem with analytics necessarily. In argument, I will use ANY rhetorical device to get a leg up on my opponent.

But I do think that slavish devotion to numbers is problematic when analyzing any enterprise involving humans. Humans are analog, not digital. Hence the eye tests. Think of it as a way of double checking. You do the math one way, then you do it another way and hope the analytics and the eye tests reach similar conclusions.

People used the eyeball test with Madoff and he checked out great.

It didn't work on Madoff because he socially engineered people. High level con men create and play to bias.

A good con man will feed you the analytics that confirm your pre-existing bias. A great con man like Madoff will literally fool thousands of high-IQ people.

Actually, Madoff is my point. So-called "rational analysis" failed to detect him.

    Good article here.

Pistons changes imminent after 'year of misery'

    A couple things from it:

    1) Reggie will definitely be back next year
    2) Some regulars from this season will definitely be gone next year
    3) We need a veteran leader

@BillLaimbeer@BillLaimbeer is this a crack on SJ or a few guys?

“That’s going to have to change and part of that is going to have to come from us being a little bit stricter and tougher with them on things in our expectations and part of it is going to have from them. You’ve been in the league four or five years — let’s take care of yourself better, let’s be more ready, pay more attention to the game plan, get our extra work in, be more dedicated to the lifting. All those things.

“The young part has to go by the wayside as an excuse. You’re a professional and you’re getting paid. If you don’t want that responsibility, don’t come out after one year. If you want to come out after one year, then you decided you wanted to be a pro — be a freaking pro.”
