18 games in ....no real discussion on thread on this years team, so thought I would create one before they are eliminated from any post season play.

The are currently 12-6 and holding down an overall 11th place in the B1G standings at 2-3. Losses to Iowa, Illinois and Maryland....wins over Penn State and Nebraska

Seniors Derrick Walton Jr and Zack Irvin are trying to hold a team that still relies on the three to win games and although they proficient in it, their defense can't make for it. I believe they are near the top of the conference in 3 point percentage and the bottom of the conference in defending the three.

They are number one in the nation in both the fewest turnovers and fouls per game. They are also in the top 10 in free throw shooting

Still no one gives them a chance to win because they are too inconsistent. They have five blow wins this season all over non conference opponents and four of those were at Crisler. Except for a double digit loss to Illinois, all of the other 4 conference contests have been settled by 7 points or less.

They beat Nebraska yesterday 91-86 and actually led wire to wire...but could never put the Huskers away despite going up 10 on two different occasions in the second half. It was 54th win in the Belien Wolvering era where the team had scored at least 80 points. The Wolverines are now 54-3 in the Belien era when the team scores at least 80 points. Unfortunately 2 of those 3 losses have come this season, a blowout loss to UCLA and an upset OT loss to Iowa on New Years Day.

The next game is at 18th rated Wisconsin where the second place Badgers are the only team in conference who have yet to lose at home....and the Wolverines have yet to win on the road.

After trailing 28-21 at the half....the Wolverines opened the second half on a 17-2 run to go up 38-30. Then after M failed box out of a missed FT, the Badgers grabbed the board and shot a 3 from the corner for a 4 point play to cut the lead to four. The Badgers continued their great play and rolled off a 13-5 run to tie the game a 43. The Wolverines countered with a 6-0 run to go up 49-43......and then the roof caved in....

The Badgers countered with 15-0 run on five straight threes...helped by Michigan big man Mo Wagner who after sitting for a spell with 4 fouls came in to miss three FG's and a FT. He's a good player, but I think him coming back in the game threw off the Wolverines in crunch time and the better team prevailed and won. IMO his exuberance to help out doomed the Wolverines who still had a chance after falling down by 7 with less than 3 minutes left in the game.

The Badger faithful looked worried halfway thru the second half, but the refs and the smart play by the Badger players assured that their undefeated record that dates back a a year would stay in tact.
Final score Wisconsin 68- Michigan 64.

A couple of bad possessions by UM down the stretch that turned the tide. Otherwise, UM looked really good and poised to pull off a nice upset.

A couple of convincing wins over the Spartans earlier in the week and one over the Hoosiers today in Bloomington and all of sudden the Wolverines are back on the last four out bubble. 16-9 over all and 6-6 in conference. Today's win was their first on the road this season. They still have 4 road games left @ Minnesota, Rutgers, Northwestern and Nebraska The two remaining home games are against ranked teams in Wisconsin and Purdue.

To make the Big Dance, they still need to win a couple more road games, as well as get a win or two over a top program. They control their own destiny.

    They are currently 16-6
A win over both ranked teams, Wisconsin and Purdue at home...and a win on the road over Northwestern and Rutgers puts them in mix... Rutgers currently occupies the last slot in the conference and you cannot lose to them on your last regular game on the season. Then at least a second round visit in the BIG Tourney puts them at least 21-9

LOL. He's one of the best coaches in the nation. You forget he led the Wolverines to the National Championship game just a couple of years ago? Big Ten champ 2 of the last 5 years. That isn't luck. The guy can coach.

Ok one down ....and 3 more to go for a probable big dance ticket. Great gutsy win by Wolverines over the #11 Badgers. Mo Wagner and Zack Irvin led the way.

    Final Michigan 64 Wisconsin 58.
