His 3 points are pretty weak.

    1) hired a smart guy to focus on analytics (valid, but reportedly, so has every other team)
    2) drafted a guy that rated well in analytical formulas (pretty weak. Drafted a guy way out of position based on that would be better evidence. Pope went close to his projected spot.)
    3) team was rated high by others before the season started (extremely weak. This means others use analytics and the most vocal of those might have used flawed models... or that the team isn't taking advantage of it's players. it doesn't point toward us using analytics.)

That article is terrible. Absolutely terrible. If the Pistons are relying on statistics, obviously they are pretty bad at it.

I think the Pistons use analytical for business purposes, not basketball purposes.

Giannis is not a #1 pick.

    What a garbage article.

Trey Burke Named NBA’s Western Conference Rookie of the Month for January | THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE UTAH JAZZ

The Jazz won't make the playoffs this year in the deep west, but they if they win at least five more games than the Pistons, the KCP pick over Trey will be questioned if Burke wins rookie of the year.

    Let's compare

    Burke 30 mpg - 37% fg% - 12.7 ppg - 5.6 apg - 3.2 rpg

    Pope 25 mpg - 40% fg% - 7.1 ppg - 0.9 apg - 2.2 rpg

Works for me. Wouldn't have had to pay big bucks to Jennings and Mo would have had a nice project to keep himself busy with. Might even have been able to find a two guard with a feared outside shot.

In true Pistons fashion, they're really pushing KCP for these awards by having Mo Cheecks announced that he won't run any plays for him.

I don't normally do rotations, but if we had drafted Burke...here's how it would have played out

    Burke>>> Billups/Bynum/Stuckey/Siva
    Knight>>>Stuckey/Billups
    Drummond>>>Monroe/Jorts
    Middleton/Singler/GiGi
    Smith>>Monroe/BoT/Mitchell

No Jennings or KCP, but hopefully the three point shooting SF in Middleton and the floor spacing we needed to allow the bigs to open up the middle for Burke to penetrate if needed.

Burke can shoot the three. Knight can shoot the 3. Middleton wouldn't have been played. We would have ended up with Smith still at the 3 unless we had a coach with any ideas about coaching basketball.

Is this a mostly joking thread, a somewhat joking thread, or a completely joking thread?

Also, let's please go easy on the hindsight bias.

For the Rising Star challenge, how about this idea...

Two captains are chosen (former players, bball related celebrities, etc).

Any rook or sophomore can declare themselves eligible for the rising stars draft. If they don't want to play in the game or they feel like they might not get drafted, they can abstain. The captains then draft the players schoolyard style and the guys that don't get picked are the snubs. That way there are 2 specific people responsible for the snubbing.

You'd have to do something to motivate the captains to do a good job. So how about the NBA donates $x to the charity of their choice. If they win the game, they get invited back the next year to be a captain, and so on, until they are finally defeated.

I think it would be cool if someone like CWebb went on a role and was insurmountable due to his drafting strategy.

I like the creativeness involved, but too much public humiliation involved in that scenario.

NBA Rising Stars Challenge 2014: Draft Results for Team Webber and Team Hill | Bleacher Report

So who snubbed KCP? GHill or CWebb......or was it Mo for not playing him enough or was it KCP for not being aggressive enough or shooting accurately?

I mean with KCP starting, he had his chances to make a bigger impact than some of the other rookies drafted by Hill and Webber . The guys they chose were #2 Oladipo, #9 Burke, #11 MCWilliams, #13 Olynyk, #15 Giannas, #22 Plumlee, #24 Hardaway.....Webber took six of the rookies for his team including the two his two Wolverines alumni mates.
